February 9, 2010

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

NOTICE – A NEW GUIDE HAS BEEN MADE FOR THE 2011 NIGHT OF MURDER.  YOU CAN FIND IT HERE.  SOME THINGS HAVE CHANGED SINCE LAST YEAR.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, WAR players’ hearts are filled with…

…the desire to slaughter their enemies.  🙂

Night of Murder is back, let the bloodshed begin!!!

I’ll update this guide as necessary throughout the event.  Check back often!

~Gaar

As darkness falls, Khaine’s worshipers bathe the land in blood, intent on proving their devotion to the Elven God of Murder.  Assassins infiltrate the cities while on the battlefield the differences between Good and Evil fade beneath the crimson haze of blood-lust. None are immune to the will of Khaine during this time.

Order Quests

The Wild-Eyed Guiltseeker can be found at (27236, 31076) in Altdorf near the Flight Master.  He hands out the ‘Marked for Death’ quest.

Marked for Death

This is a timed quest.  Once you pick it up, you have two hours to complete it or you fail.  Good times.

What you’re looking for here is targets that have been marked with the skull icon.  These can include things like PQ bosses, Keep Lords and enemy players.  Here’s what the icon looks like:

Once you’ve completed the quest, return to the Wild-Eyed Guiltseeker and turn it in for your reward.

Reward : XP and the Vendetta Vial

I have to say, this item is a great addition to the event.  I always wanted to be able to mark specific targets on the battlefield for this event and this finally makes that possible.  Muahahahahaha!

Tip:  There are marked mobs scattered throughout your city.  Once you attack them, their level adjusts to your Tier and you can kill them for credit for the quest.

Destruction Quests

The Twisted Slaughterhag can be found at (29719, 33558) in the Inevitable City near the Flight Master.  She hands out the ‘Marked for Death’ quest.

Achievement Unlocks (in no particular order)

Haven’t seen any yet, but I had them last year too…not sure if they recycled them or just didn’t put any in…again.  😦

Update: OK, so apparently some of these can be done this year, but they’re last year’s Achievements (2009).  I’m just going to list them all off as they appear in my Tome.  I make no guarantees that you’ll be able to unlock them at all and there’s a couple I don’t have.

  • Complete the Marked Quest 10 Times
  • Deafeat 20 Marked monsters
  • Kill 25 enemy players
  • Toss the Lobbin Noggin of an enemy player 5 times
  • Assassinate 1 member of each enemy career
  • ???
  • Participate in Any Elf Scenario
  • Gain a buff from a Shrine of Khaine
  • Kill 15 players of each enemy race
  • Assassinate 5 enemy guild officers
  • Assassinate a guild leader
  • ???
  • Assassinate an Ironbreaker or a Black Orc
  • Assassinate a Runepriest or a Shaman
  • Assassinate an Engineer or a Squig Herder
  • Assassinate a Knight of the Blazing Sun or a Chosen
  • Assassinate a Warrior Priest or a Zealot
  • Assassinate a Bright Wizard or a Magus
  • Assassinate a Witch Hunter or a Marauder
  • Assassinate a Swordmaster or a Black Guard
  • Assassinate a Archmage or a Disciple of Khaine
  • Assassinate a Shadow Warrior or a Sorcerer
  • Assassinate a White Lion or a Witch Elf
  • Defeat 15 Greenskins or Dwarfs
  • Defeat 15 Empire humans or Chaos humans
  • Defeat 15 High Elves or Dark Elves

Now that I’ve seen these again, I’m fairly certain most won’t be obtainable.  Not because you can’t do it, but because they’re not turned on.  I know one of the ??? ones is Kill 5 Keep Lords and I did that this year but it didn’t unlock.  The other is probably for completing everything.  Oh well.  A couple might be obtainable this year as some have reported getting at least one.

Rare World Drops

A Live Event guide wouldn’t be complete without talking about the phat lootz!

First up, we have a return visit from some of last year’s items:  Thoroughly Lobbed Nog and Lobbin’ Noggin

Thoroughly Lobbed Nog

This item is looted off dead players in RvR.  It is literally your dead opponent’s head.  When you right click it to use it, it mails their head back to them.  Good times.  Once mailed, you’re left with:

Yuck.  No clue if this is just fluff or does anything.  I’ve still got some left over from last year.  hehe

Your Thoroughly Lobbed Nog

This is what the person gets when you use the previous loot.  It arrives in the mail with a nice letter from your killer.

Awww….how sweet!  Now if only you could reply to them and become pen pals…not.

Lobbin’ Noggin

This item is also looted off dead players in RvR.  It is a fun little item that can be tossed back and forth amongst people.  You do this by right-clicking the item in your inventory.  Be careful who you toss it to!  No one says they have to toss it back…  Do this five times to complete your Live Event task.

Hidden Titles

For some, these are just as exciting as loot, so I’m putting them here.  hehe

Khaine’s Forgotten – This seems to be obtained for dying when Marked for Death X number of times.  There’s no way to know you’ve been Marked, so you just need to go out and fight a lot to get this one.  Mine literally triggered upon death, so that is definitely the link.

Devotee of Khaine – Kill X number of players that are Marked for Death it seems.  I’ve killed a lot of marked players though and still don’t have it.  I’m even marking everyone I’m killing with Vials.  ~shrug~

Destroyer of Lords – Kill 5 Keep Lords that are Marked for Death.  Seems random though as I know someone that got 5 marked off but no title.  I got mine when it gave me credit for 5, but I had killed 6.  ~shrug~

Grim Reaper – Stake your dead foes 25 times or so.  I didn’t count, but it seemed to be right.  Good times!

Bloodborn – Unknown.  Possibly for killing X number of Marked players while in a Scenario.

The Murderous – Unknown.  Got it last year from using the Basic Influence reward.

Bloody Postmaster – Mail back someone’s Thoroughly Lobbed Nog.

Master Assassin – Complete all Live Event tasks.  Possibly just a leftover from last year as it’s not listed in the tooltip as a reward.  I did get this when I completed all the tasks though, as I had not finished the event last year.

More phat lootz and titles coming as they’re found!

Good luck finding everything and, as always…

Have fun!

The quest wasn’t updating for me earlier, got 2 keep kills, and should have had the quest update to 2/5…..nothing happened, it did update in the TOK though, maybe the quest is bugged.

If the kill the keep lord task is updating, that’s the important part. The marked kills are easy enough to get in other ways.

Does the pike decay like the keg-handler reward did, or is it a permanent item?

    • gaarawarr permalink

Mine does not have a decay timer on it.

I have completed the Marked for death quest a total of six times now and the quest hasn’t advanced – when I went to Wild-Eyed Guiltseeker on sixth / seventh time he gave me same quest “marked for death” again

    • gaarawarr permalink

The quest doesn’t advance. You simply do it 5 times and it marks it off in your task list. The task list is in your Tome. Hit K and click the golden tab at the bottom.

How do I get the thoroughly lobbed nog for the bloody postmaster title?

    • gaarawarr permalink

Just gotta kill people in RvR. Eventually one will drop.

So throwing around a lobbing noggin with some guildmates won’t get me one then. (I’m just asking because I have a guild mate or two that thinks that.)

i just unlocked the “khaine’s forgotten” title as well, i got it straight after i was killed in a scenario. think you might get the unlock by being killed x times as a marked player?

    • gaarawarr permalink
      February 10, 2010 2:32 pm

That could be it as well. Hard to say since there doesn’t seem to be any Tome Unlocks that correspond with the Title. If that’s the case, I’d have to run around naked in RvR. Tanks don’t die often. lol

Could it be surviving a scenario while being marked? Not dying might mean Khaine has forgotten you? I dunno.

    • Nacireman permalink
      February 10, 2010 4:09 pm

Can’t be that, I got it dying in a Scenario.

    • gaarawarr permalink

Yeah, sounds like it’s from dieing while marked a certain number of times then.

My guess, though a guess, is that it is dying from someone with the buff gained from Khaine’s altar. This makes sense when coupled from someone dying in lava, because if you have the buff, dying in lava is technically killing yourself. 😉 (In response to Nacireman’s title-by-lava.)

      Great guide — thanks!

    • gaarawarr permalink

If it’s from killing Keep Lords, which is completely possible, it’s probably from more than 5.

      February 10, 2010 3:11 pm

It is definitely from completing the “Kill 5 Keep Lords” task item in the Live Event. I got it this morning after we took Ironskin Skar which gave me the 5 for the event.

He was not marked and I cannot remember if I had the buff or not. Yes I had completed the kill 15 of each race task.

Confirmed Grim Reaper. Still working on Destroyer of Lords and Master Assassin which should come at the same time since that’s all I have left. Already had The Murderous but I can test a theory on that with an alt. Still not sure about how to get Bloodborn or Devotee of Khaine. If anyone else gets them, please post what you were doing and if you were buffed with Fascination with Murder or not. Thanks!

NO Fascination with Murder buff on me.

I got it while doing a scen straight after an enemy was killed by someone in my group (I didn’t even touch the guy, unlocked while I was running towards them).

So killing x number of marked players seem pretty probable to me 🙂

Has anyone encountered PQs with more than one marked mob? I know that Burning Windmill in Nordland has 2 and Destruction of the Weak in Norsca has 2, but only found one PQ with 3 marked mobs (Order PQ Howling vale in Ostland, 3 x r19 champs). I admit I didn’t had patience to grind that many and I was looking some easy to solo PQ for r40.

(Yes, there are mobs in Altdorf/IC, but it’s boring and PQ’s give chance to completing PQ sets I might have missed :p)
