Choose…but choose wisely… (Guide to Golden Writs)

May 7, 2010

Mythic made good on their promise to provide two special tokens to people affected by the unfortunate billing debacle that happened in April.

From the amount of chatter in Region and Advice, some people aren’t sure how these work, where the new vendor is or even what some of the items do/are.

Hopefully this helps those affected make informed decisions.

~Gaar

The Tokens

These tokens show up via in-game mail from ‘Marketing Rewards’ in two separate letters and are called Golden Writs.  Once you’ve pulled your tokens out of the mail, they go to your Currency bag.  Make sure they are there before deleting said letters…  😉

Note: You should only receive these letters on the account that was affected by the billing issue.  If you did not receive them but truly should have, then appeal via the CSR Appeal interface and ask for your account to be verified for eligibility.

The Vendors

Now that you have your shiny new tokens, head to the Library in your respective capital city and visit the new Records Keeper NPCs.  Here are their names and locations to make it easy for you:

Order – Valstrong Donnor (18050, 2135) (2nd floor of the Library)

Destruction – Feral Mal’levil (22300, 33580) (1st floor of the Library)

Once you’ve found them, chat them up.  Be sure to pay close attention to their initial comment:  we do not offer refunds.

Note: Right-clicking buys the item.  So do NOT right-click until you know that’s what you wish to purchase and then, only do it once!

The Items

Most of the items are the same for both Order and Destruction.  A few are different and I’ve labeled those based on Realm.  All are obviously Bind on Pickup.

WAR Tract

This item grants you one free level.  (For a guide on how to get the free version, look here.)  If you’re already 40, don’t bother since it can’t be used at that level.  If you’re not 40, obviously save it until you’re 39.  If you have this one and the free one, you can skip both 38 and 39.

Note: I would recommend choosing a different reward in the current game since a level is fairly easy to come by, whereas some of these other rewards aren’t.

Kossar’s Helm

This item is an actual Helm that you can wear but it has no stats.  When activated, it turns you into a bear for 5 minutes.  The effect breaks on combat.  The re-use timer is 60 minutes.

Note: This originally came as a bonus item when you purchased the most recent version of Red Alert.  I’m not sure if you can still obtain it this way, but if you’d rather not use a token on it and pay cash instead, that’s something to look into.

Always when I blink…sheesh…

Skaven Skin Cloak

This item is a cloak you can wear but it has no stats.  When activated, it turns you into a skaven for 5 minutes.  The effect breaks on combat.  The re-use timer is 60 minutes.

Note: This item was previously only associated with certain marketing promotions and giveaways.

Signet of the Cursed Company

The activated ability of this item turns you into a skeleton for 5 minutes.  The effect breaks on combat.  The re-use timer is 60 minutes.  You also earn a Title for obtaining it.

Note: This item was originally a reward earned pre-release but has since been seen in various marketing promotions and giveaways.

Box of Endless Dye: Skull White

This item was created specifically for this.  It’s activated ability creates one Aged Skull White Dye that is Bind on Pickup.  The Box has a 10 second re-use timer but offers an infinite amount of Dye.

Box of Endless Dye: Chaos Black

This item was created specifically for this.  It’s activated ability creates one Aged Chaos Black Dye that is Bind on Pickup.  The Box has a 10 second re-use timer but offers an infinite amount of Dye.

Order – Imperial Griffon

This item is a mount.  It offers 70% movements speed and a X% chance of being knocked off in combat.

Note: This can also be obtained via lottery for attending certain test events on the Public Test Server.  You can also obtain one for every character on your account by referring three people to WAR.

Destruction – Enslaved Manticore

This item is a mount.  It offers 70% movements speed with a 45% chance to dismount while taking damage.

Note: This can also be obtained via lottery for attending certain test events on the Public Test Server.  You can also obtain one for every character on your account by referring three people to WAR.

Order – Imperial Hunting Hound

This is a Pocket Item that automatically summons a pet to your side when you’re not RvR-flagged or in combat.

Note: This can alternately be obtained by referring a friend to WAR or as a reward for certain test events on the Public Test Server.

The pet is the one on the left… 😉

Destruction – Warlord’s Fell Hound

This is a Pocket Item that automatically summons a pet to your side when you’re not RvR-flagged or in combat.

Note: This can alternately be obtained by referring a friend to WAR or as a reward for certain test events on the Public Test Server.

Order – Dwarf Keg-Handler

This item summons a “pet” that follows you around for a while when not RvR-flagged or in combat.

Note: This item was originally introduced in the 2009 Keg End Live Event as a rare drop.  It may or may not return in 2010.

Destruction – Goblin Bar-Back

This item summons a “pet” that follows you around for a while when not RvR-flagged or in combat.

Note: This item was originally introduced in the 2009 Keg End Live Event as a rare drop.  It may or may not return in 2010.

As no one else seems to have had an issue, I’m going to assume it was a one-time thing.

It’s not something I would handle anyway as it would be an issue with wordpress.com and not my blog.

I hae to post twice, hehe, but I forgot to ask my actual question…. fail.

Are the Writs “Market Rewards” is the traditional sense? As in, they do NOT expire from your mailbox, they ARE sent to EVERYONE on your account (As in characters that were created AFTER the event) and that the vendor will be a permenent part of the game.

Im wondering if theyre….. uh…. permenent, sort of.

Nice post Gaar. Sorry if this was already mentioned, but one side note, the cloaks can be activated from your inventory, there is no need to wear them.

That is correct and true of all activated items. Only the Pocket Items have to be worn to work.

    @Rie
I’m not sure if “anonymouse” is correct or not, but they do have an expiration timer. So, I’d grab them all ASAP. But they will be sent to every new character you make, I take it.

According to something Mythic wrote somewhere (Herald maybe? Can’t remember.) they said that all current and ALL FUTURE characters on the accounts effected by this will receive the golden writs. Thus, I believe that the vendor will be there permanently.

Also: The only correct choices are the white & black dye boxes. :3

Found it (still on the front page, lol.)
      http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=1089

“As previously announced all characters (present and future) on affected accounts are eligible to receive these tokens of appreciation.”

Incorrect on your “correct” choices. I know people that could care less about the dyes either because they already have lots of them already or simply don’t like those colors. Just because it’s rare doesn’t mean it’s preferred.

    Sup Gaar!

Nice post bro, only here I can see visual stuff… I really like the visual aspect of my char, I guess that’s why I get myself bored sometimes about my WP face and circlet. Did you heard something bout char redesign coming up, where you can reroll face and accessories? (Like change the circlet)

    Good luck bro!

I believe there has been comments made regarding allowing people to adjust their looks after character creation. I would expect they’ll discuss that more in detail when/if it gets included into an actual patch. It’s not in 1.3.5, so won’t be something we hear about right now most likely.

How about magus? Do we get recruit-a-friend kind of mount or what?
