New Potions in Land of the Dead

May 18, 2010

~Notice: These vendors were removed from the game as they weren’t meant to go to Live yet.  They will hopefully return in the future, but their offerings may not be the same as shown below.~

So along with the sneakiness that was the new Land of the Dead-themed Mount, Mythic also snuck in some new potions purchasable only with the Scarabs you get in Zandri onto the Public Test Server.

Unlike the mount, these were completely unannounced.  I’m not even sure they’ll go live with the patch, but they very well could.  I’ll check first thing when the servers come up.

Either way, looks like people’s request for more purchasable items via tokens was answered in some ways with this patch.  Hopefully this is a sign of more good things to come in future patches.

Let’s take a look at the new stuff!

The Potions

There are three different categories of potions available on the new vendor:  Heal, Action Point, and Scarab.

There are four different levels of each potion, each with a different cost.

Level 1 – Requires Rank 31 and costs 5 Silver Scarabs
Level 2 – Requires Rank 36 and costs 10 Silver Scarabs
Level 3 – Requires Rank 40 and costs 5 Gold Scarabs
Level 4 – Requires Rank 40 and costs 15 Gold Scarabs

The Heal and AP potions appear to use the same cooldown timer as the ones purchased with Officer Medallions from RvR.  I’m not sure about the Scarab potion yet as I had no Thorn potions on me to test.

Heal Potions

Level 1 – Cloudy Elixir of Basth – 2046 health
Level 2 – Clear Elixir of Basth – 2346 health
Level 3 – Vibrant Elixir of Basth – 2598 health
Level 4 – Radiant Elixir of Basth – 2850 health

Action Point Potions

Level 1 – Stale Blood of Asaph – 136 AP
Level 2 – Aged Blood of Asaph – 156 AP
Level 3 – Invigorating Blood of Asaph – 173 AP
Level 4 – Purified Blood of Asaph – 190 AP

Flesh-Eating Scarab Potions

Level 1 – Swarm of Desert Scarabs – 5 seconds, 205 damage once per second per target
Level 2 – Swarm of Corpse Scarabs – 5 seconds, 235 damage once per second per target
Level 3 – Swarm of Flesh-Eating Scarabs – 5 seconds, 260 damage once per second per target
Level 4 – Swarm of Khsar Scarabs – 5 seconds, 285 damage once per second per target

Definitely gives people something to spend their Scarabs on now.  Also kind of encourages people to hunt down kills in Land of the Dead too for both the quest and invading for Cartouches to break down into Scarabs.  1 Cartouche = 25 Gold Scarabs.

Not to mention the fact that Scarabs are tradable, which also makes this addition an interesting economic feed for people to buy/sell Scarabs thus effectively making these new potions purchasable with gold.  Quite the interesting move.  We’ll find out once the servers are up if it went live with this patch or not.  I’m hoping so.  I have a bunch of Scarabs burning a hole in my currency bag.  😉

Have fun with 1.3.5!

“Also kind of encourages people to hunt down kills in Land of the Dead too for both the quest ”

I don’t like this this. There’s already people RR70+ (often with at least several sovereign parts if not full) roaming LotD, killing low level players leveling apparently for the quest. I understand the risk of leveling there, but quite annoying especially when you honestly don’t have a chance of winning at all.

Officer pots aren’t BoP, or at least haven’t been before.

The exp return in LotD is monumentally superior to what you can get anywhere else. There NEEDS to be a major trade-off for that beneift. I love to roam through LotD killing people who are leveling, it’s entertaining and rewarding.

It is fun. I was there with a guild group and we were powerleveling. I was on a lowbie and we only had 1 R40 in the group. We succinctly killed stray Destro on our journey and I’m unsure if they knew what we were.

We wound up at the Pit PQ where you fall through the floor. We’re down there grinding mobs and all the Destro we killed singly came back with a full wb to roll us. It was hilarious. They wasted their time with a full wb to come find us and roll us. Hope they enjoyed the loads of renown they got.

I agree with Shadow … big XP comes with big risks.
