Keg End 2009 – Live Event Guide

December 16, 2009

It’s baaaaaccckkkk….

The Holidays are upon us and, as such, Keg End returns to WAR!

Those of you that were here for last year should be familiar with how it works.  For those who will be spending their first Holiday Season with us, welcome to a Live Event full of toasting, boasting and killing lots and lots of things.  hehe

As usual, I’ll update this as I go along and as more is known about the event and any secrets Mythic may have hid in it.

Enjoy!

~Gaar

The wheel of the seasons has turned, ushering out the sun’s last warmth with bitter blasts of northern winds. As snow creeps down to block mountain passes and lock the Warhammer world in the icy talons of winter, the citizens of the Old World raise their mugs high; the time of Keg End is at hand. In an epic celebration fraught with boasting, toasting, and epic fireworks, the Dwarfs clear out their stores of ales, beers and other intoxicating beverages in order to bring luck in the New Year and make way for a stock of better, stronger brews.

Keg End (Live Event – December 2009)

Each year, the Dwarf empty their stores of ales and beers, in a celebration known as Keg End – to bring luck in the new year and make room for stronger, better brews.  Meanwhile, the forces of Destruction scramble to ruin the celebration, by guzzling all the Dwarf brews first!

  • Basic Reward – Exclusive Title – Brew Hound (Order), Broo Dawg (Destruction)

  • Advanced Reward – Party Keg – Deploys a keg that allies can interact with to increase morale gain.

  • Elite – Keg Tap – Event Slot item with career-specific stats

The Live Event Herald for Order is named Kadius Kridt and is located at (26818, 30784) by the Flight Master in Altdorf.  The Live Event Herald for Destruction is named Kralf Hexenkrieger and is located at (29500, 32368) by the Flight Master in the Inevitable City.

General Information

The Keg End Live Event started on December 16th and will last until the morning of January 4th.  As usual, there are Tier 1, 2, 3, and 4 versions of what needs to be done and where things are located.  Use the red circles on your map as guides and if that fails, ask in region or check this guide for location coordinates.

The Hero Giants can be found in the RvR lakes.  You can’t miss them if they’re out.  They’re quite large…

I soloed one as a tank, so a couple people should do fine as long as one is tanky.  hehe.  The one I killed dropped Fireworks and Explosive Stout.

Nice to see that make a return, I’d almost run out of my supply from last year.

It’s also been confirmed that the purple drops come off them as well.

Giant Spawn/Respawn Update:  Giant spawn location rules – With the help of Patriotic and crew on Iron Rock, it’s been determined that only 1 Giant spawns per PAIRING at any given time (ie: 1 in Elf, 1 in Dwarf, 1 in Empire).  It can spawn in any of the zones in that pairing and there are 2 locations per zone.  Once you kill it, it will respawn in 5 minutes at one of the other spawn points in the PAIRING.

Best advice: Split up into small groups on each of the respawn points and farm, farm, farm!

See below for screenshots of the phat lewtz from them.  🙂

Giant Location Update: Still working on Empire and Dwarf.

The Giant in Elf is Ul-Grod the Devourer.  He can be found at the following locations:

Destruction Quests

Gaggmagit Slopreek can be found at roughly (29000, 36000) in the Inevitable City.  He hands out the Pub Crawlers and Dead Soldiers quests for Destruction players.

Part 2 – To complete this part, you’ll need to head into the Blackfire Basin Scenario and scrounge up 10 of Bugman’s Kegs.  These are found to the left and right of the map on the ground.  They have a use-timer and there’s only 10 in the whole Scenario, so you may have to do it a few times to get them all.  Once done, return to Gagmaggit in the Inevitable City for your reward.

Reward:  Bottomless Stein Trophy

Achievement Unlocks (in no particular order)

Apparently there aren’t any…

Yes, you can do some of the things this year and have them unlock Achievements from last year’s event, but that’s it.

😦

Rare World Drops

Did you think I’d end the guide without talking about phat lewtz?  hehe

With the return of Keg End comes the return of everyone’s favorite loot:  The Battlebrew Backpack.

This tasty little item looks great on dwarfs, but even if you don’t want to wear it, you’ll want one in your inventory for it’s special ability.  It basically gives you a ranged DoT on a 3 minute reuse timer.  Gotta love it.  They drop quite frequently off players in Open RvR and Scenarios.

New for this year is the Dwarf Keg Handler for Order and the Goblin Bar-Back for Destruction.  They drop off the Giants you find in the RvR lakes.  (See the Giant descriptions above for spawn information.)

These little helpers will tote your keg around for you while you go about your business.  What a great idea!

Last, but not least, there are purple Live Event Slot Items that drop off the Giants as well.  (See the Giant descriptions above for spawn information.)  Here are some samples:

Good luck finding everything and, as always…

Have fun!

Love the write ups Garr! Also, Boiling Blood potions and Lobbin Noggin’s have also made a reappearance from previous LE’s as random player kill drops. Oh, and where does the permanent Keg caddy item drop from. Dont forget Dwarf beer cache locations.

Just added how to find the Keg Caches. I’m still going under the assumption that the Keg Handlers come off the Giants in the lakes.

As always, I appreciate your Live Event write-ups! Always extensive and thorough. Thanks!

Noticed the Tome Unlocks too … nothing pops up on-screen when you complete a Live Event task. Shame.

Running scenarios I saw that we have access to Black Fire Basin (one of my least favorite scenarios). Is this what’s needed to finish Step 2 of the Fallen Soldiers quest? Is this where we go to find the lost beer kegs?

Any idea if there are special titles or unlocks for running this scenario a bunch of times (i.e., Kill 100 Destro for title or something)?

after I pick up the blackfire basin kegs I just need to kill players and Giants… People on badlands have begun killing them quite regularly, might be that it spawns in another rvr lake some 5-10 min after it dies in one. Still am testing that but I don’t know. also the lake doesn’t seem to need to be contested. I’m still trying for that 35 Backpack and a perma caddy 😀

The second part of Dead Soldiers is indeed inside Black Fire Basin. There are kegs you have to pick up on the left and right sides of the map. They seem to only spawn once per scenario, so it may take multiple scenarios to get your quest done.

As noted in the guide, the Backpacks can come off player in ORvR and Scenarios while the Keg Handler and Silver Keg Tap come off the Giants.

One per pairing, per Tier. Verified this last night as I farmed them for my Keg Handler. :p I have all the Elf T4 spawn points. If I can get the Empire and Dwarf ones as well, I’ll add them all to the guide.

To be honest, I haven’t seen a need to. It’s a temporary buff you get from picking the item up that boosts damage, healing output, AP regen and renown gain. It’s definitely nice, but it makes you a huge target with it’s Finger of God light.
