The Wild Hunt 2010

August 31, 2010

It’s Anniversary time in WAR, so you know what that means…

The Hunt is on!!!

Today brings us the start of the Anniversary Live Event: The Wild Hunt!  As always, I will try to cover as much of the Live Event information as possible, even though I’ll be on the road for PAX this week.

I will do my best to update this with any new information as it is obtained.  Make sure to read the Comments as people usually post tips there.

Enjoy!!!

The Elven God of the Hunt has stalked the mortal lands since time immemorial.  Year in and year out, the High Elves gather to honor Kurnous with a sacred hunt, where the best of the best try to prove themselves Master Hunters in the eyes of the greatest hunter of them all.

But with the war raging on, the practice has faltered … and the God of the Hunt is angry.  No longer do skillful mortals hunt to feed their families; instead, hardened soldiers scour the woods and meadows of all available game.  No longer do hunters  observe sacred rites; they kill only to test their skills, and leave their prey to rot on the battlefields…

The God of the Hunt can brook no more!  The hunter’s moon has risen!  The horn of Kurnous has sounded! Let those who honor the ancient traditions pay heed — and let all who slaughter with abandon tremble!

The Wild Hunt (Live Event – September 2010)

The Wild Hunt is upon the Elves and Ulthuan is already sodden with blood.  Hunters stalk the fields and forests in search of rare and savage prey, to demonstrate their skill to the God of the Hunt and perhaps gain his favor.  Others seek merely to glimpse the fabled White Stag and gain Kurnous’ blessing.  But Kurnous is a true hunter and incurring his wrath carries a price … of poetic justice.

Players who please Kurnous may receive a Bleeding Heart Charm or the Fleet Stag Mantle.  In Elf RvR lands, players can vie to capture Vale Vines and unlock higher level versions of the Hunter’s Vale, where the God of the Hunt tests their mettle.  The truly lucky may sight the White Stag as it wanders from zone to zone; the truly unlucky may suffer the Curse of Kurnous.

  • Basic Reward – Hartsblood Draft – Fine wine laced with the blood of a royal stag, this draft is said to loosen the wild side that lurks within every great hunter. ~Grants the Title “Wild Hunter”

  • Advanced Reward – Stag Skull Trophy – The skulls of white stags killed in previous years are often given out during the Wild Hunt.  They are said to be lucky, aiding the hunter in slaying his prey.

Trophy onStag Skull Trophy

  • Elite Reward – Bleeding Heart Charm – Carved by Huntsmen-Priests, these bone flasks weep silver ichor drawn from a Spirit of Kurnous.  It’s said they convey good luck for many days before they run dry.

The Live Event Herald for Order is named Kadius Kridt and is located at ((26776, 30868) in Altdorf, near the Flight Master.  The Live Event Herald for Destruction is named Kralf Hexenkrieger and is located at (29455, 32368) in the Inevitable City, near the Flight Master.

General Information

The Wild Hunt lasts from August 31st to September 14th.  As usual, there are Tier 1, 2, 3, and 4 versions of what needs to be done and where things are located.  Use the red circles on your map as guides and if that fails, ask in region or check this guide for location coordinates.

Order Live Event Tasks (in no particular order):

  • Locate the Fallen Hunters
  • Complete ‘Render Unto Kurnous’ Quest
  • Kill five Sacred Stags
  • Target the White Stag
  • Participate in any Elf Scenario
  • Kill five Beast-Hexed players
  • Receive the Curse of Kurnous five times
  • Complete all the Tasks on the Master Huntsman Page
  • Kill the Spirit of Kurnous
  • Uncover the Secret to Reaching Kurnous’ Lair
  • Complete all Wild Hunt tasks

Fallen Hunters : Search the Hunter’s Vale for those who have come before.  The means of their demises may give you clues on how to survive.

Squig Herder (Behind a tree near one of the first bends in the path.) – This Squig Herder appears to have been injured in battle — then executed.  Clearly, his companions had no desire to waste time healing him.

Sorceress (At the beginning of the Hunter’s Vale.) – The wounds on this Dark Elf Sorceress indicate that she was attacked from behind — her throat slit most expertly.

Magus (On a rock after the twin Trees.) – What was once a Chaos Magus is now just a withered husk — suggesting that he was blasted by a Sorceress’ spells.

Black Orc (Thru the hollow log right before the Lion Mother.) – Though savaged by lions, this Black Orc wasn’t killed by claws and fangs: A pair of Dark Elf daggers still protrude from his ribcage.

Witch Elf (To the left of the Lion Mother behind a tree.) – This blackened corpse — perhaps a Witch Elf, once — seems to have missed the notice of the lions.  The smell of oil lingers about the body; someone doused her with some inflammatory potion — though, clearly, she crawled in here, perhaps hoping to escape her attacker … only to expire alone, in the dark.

Human (Behind the Rune Puzzle.) – This human corpse seems relatively fresh, though thin and wasted, as though starved.  Clutched in his hand is a book, all but one page torn out: ‘Can’t work out runes … starving … hallucinating … ate pages from journal for energy to write this … dying … Elf god laughing … needed all to open portal … what irony …’

Render Unto Kurnous Quest : Seek out the Master Hunter Therion Fairshot in Altdorf; he can advise you on how to show proper respect to Kurnous.

Therion is located at (26943, 30868) in Altdorf, near the Flight Master.

Repeatable Quest – only 1 stage

To start, Therion sends you to kill sacred bears, boars, lions or wolves to collect 5 animal pelts. (They actually should say “Sacred Bear of Kurnous” etc. and are found in all Elf zones.)  Once you have them, you have to travel to the Vale Vines near the PQ in the RvR lake to complete the quest.  You just need to get close to the Vale Vines and right-click on the pelts in your Quest Inventory to complete it.  Once done, head on back to Therion in Altdorf to get your rewards.

Rewards:  XP and Gold

Sacred Stags : Kurnous’ Sacred Stags are found all over the Old World.  Only the swiftest hunters can slay them!

These stags are found running randomly through the Elf zones, usually heading into the RvR lake.  They are 1-skull Lords with decent health but they do not attack you.  Chase them and burn them down!

Confirmed Spawns in Tier 4:  One spawns for Order at (36970, 20916) in Eataine, at (3337, 23377) in Dragonwake, and at (30267, 44985) in Caledor.  It stands around then runs into the RvR lake once attacked.  Once it dies, it respawns back at the original location.  Enjoy!

Sacred Stag

The White Stag : The Legendary Stag appears from time to time around the world.  Seek him at major points of interest and at moments of great importance.

Reports say that this Stag can be found near recently captured Keeps.  So get out in the lake, capture a Keep and keep your eyes open!

Confirmed Location:  I stood in the Order warcamp in Eataine right by the bridge that leads out into the RvR lake.  After quite a long time, he ran right across the bridge into the camp then went east and back out into the RvR lake.  It was NOT a contested zone and I’m not sure where he came from originally, but with patience, it’s a guaranteed way to get your unlock.  Good luck!

Elf Scenario : Participate in the Khaine’s Embrace, Phoenix Gate, Lost Temple of Isha, Blood of the Blackcairn, Caledor Woods, Dragon’s Bane, Serpent’s Passage or Tor Anroc Scenario.

Pretty self-explanatory.

Kill Beast-Hexed Players : If you fail to pass on the Curse of Kurnous, you will become Beast-Hexed.  Seek out those so unlucky, and free them of their mortal coil.

If you go to the area where the Hunter’s Vale entrances are, you’ll see the Spirit of Kurnous running around.  Occasionally he will cast an AOE ability that curses anyone in its radius and turns them into a Pig.  You can either kill the opposite Realm when this happens, or get the curse yourself and pass it to them and then kill them.

Receive the Curse of Kurnous : The Spirit of Kurnous can be found near the Vale Vines in the RvR battlefields of the Elf lands.  He lashes out, cursing those who dare cross his path.

See previous entry.

Master Hunstman Tasks : Identify all of the beast tracks on the Master Huntsman page of the Tome of Knowledge to gain the Title “The Master Hunter”.

  • Bear
  • Boar
  • Cockatrice
  • Deer
  • Lion
  • Vulture
  • Cold One
  • Salamander

These can be killed anywhere in the world apparently.  Killing 1 identifies the track, killing 15 completes the entry.

Kill the Spirit of Kurnous : Fight your way through the Hunter’s Vale to face the Spirit of Kurnous and defeat him.

Those who defeat Kurnous in his domain get a chance to loot the Fleet Stag Mantle.  He only drops one per kill, so good luck!

FleetStagMantle

This cloak grants the ability to turn into a stag for a short period which boosts your run speed to that of being mounted.

Fleet Stag Kanbei

Oh, did I mention it looks cool too?  hehe

Fleet Stag Mantle

In Tier 4, there is a special reward if you complete the PQ in under 35 minutes.

This can easily be done with a well-geared six-man without skipping things.  Good luck!

Uncover the Secret to Reaching Kurnous’ Lair : Enter the Hunter’s Vale and find a way to reach Kurnous’ Lair.

If you managed to kill Kurnous, you unlocked this one on the way.  It’s basically just doing the puzzle to get to him.

Complete All The Wild Hunt Tasks :  Again, self-explanatory.  Grants the “Lord of the Hunt” Title.

…and now for the Destruction version…

Destruction Live Event Tasks (in no particular order):

  • Locate the Fallen Hunters
  • Complete ‘To Deny a God’ Quest
  • Kill five Sacred Stags
  • Target the White Stag
  • Participate in any Elf Scenario
  • Kill five Beast-Hexed players
  • Receive the Curse of Kurnous five times

To Deny a God Quest : Seek out the ambitious Balthinal Tholos in the Inevitable City; aid him in his quest to steal Kurnous’ favor away from the High Elves.

Balthinal is located at (29411, 32456) in the Inevitable City, near the Flight Master.

Repeatable Quest – only 1 stage

To start, Balthinal sends you to slay sacred bears, boars, lions or wolves to collect 5 animal pelts. Once done, head on back to Balthinal in the Inevitable City to get your rewards.

The achievements don’t appear to unlock. I’ve completed 3 of the tasks and completed kills for 5 of the animal types, and no achievements.

    • August 31, 2010 9:02 pm

Bummer. Oh well. I figured I’d list them just in case they did. 😦

    • September 1, 2010 8:55 am

If you completed them during last year’s Wild Hunt, they won’t unlock again. I have one outstanding unlock (Defeat the Spirit of Kurnous 5 times). I intend to do that so will let you know if it unlocks when I do it.

  2. September 1, 2010 10:18 am

I got the title ‘Leathal Predatator’ . ToK doesn’t say anything about it. Apparently everyone in the party also unlocked the title.

We rushed to through the mobs until we reached the lions before the puzzle, ran inside and killed them (the wolf mother, lion mother, lioness etc) there. I’m not sure if it was from that.

Nice, was hoping there was something new for the event this year. Did you recieve the title rigght after killing the 2 Lion bosses ? I’m wondering if its a timed unlock (ie you get the title for passing the second boss it a certain amount of time) or if its just for bypassing all 3 mother champs and just killing the heros.

Anyone remebers where were the fallen hunters located outside of the HV? Maybe its time to try and get them all.

The Fallen Hunters are all found in the HV dungeon.

    • September 2, 2010 2:54 am

The ones for the task list are all inside, yes. However, last year there were some in the RvR lakes that were supposedly for the Achievement unlocks.

Just i wanna know which achievements from the wild hunt im missing (3, and 1 of them is the quest on destro side). ANd i thought that the fallen hunters could be a potential achievement.

It seems as though it is an almost full copy and paste. There are some minor differences though. The Horn of the Vale Wolf, which summons the little white wolf from the dungeon, is now impossible to obtain due to the removal of the RvR lake PQ. I’m not familiar about the Lethal Predator title, I’ll have to look for that one. The fallen hunters are exact same for Destro, so I recommend updating it. I am missing an unlock for where the order quest would be and two between Complete all the master hunt tasks and locate the fallen hunters. There is also a weapon that drops from the massive(gold) bag, or I could be getting it confused with purple. Sorry for the information overload on my first post, but good luck in the hunt.

    • September 2, 2010 2:56 am

The Seasonal Events like this are always mainly the same as the year before. The differences are always minor, so that’s nothing new. There should be weapons from the bags in HV, yes. They were fairly decent last year, not sure now.

Please keep us updated on the Horn of the Vale Wolf if you see it anywhere. I was really excited to be able to get that on my new character, only to find out that it’s impossible now.

    I’m extremely disappointed. 😦

    • September 2, 2010 2:57 am

It seems to be unavailable this year. I would definitely give feedback and ask for it to be re-introduced somehow next year if no one finds a way to get it this year.

The missed the kill end boss 5 times unlock last year. And it is not working anymore.

To get the “Lethal Predator” hidden unlock title just ignore mothers and run straight to the lion hero and start fighting. During the fight the 3 mothers will come and join the fight and you will get unlock when kill them all.

I got the Curse of Kurnous more than 10 times but still haven’t unlocked the related title. I can only guess Mythic made it unavailable too. (or maybe I’m doing something wrong) 😀

Just to make things clear, the trick to lethal predator is to ignore the den mothers, you can walk by all 3 of them without fighting them, once you get to the lion hero fight the 3 den mother’s will show up as adds, and you just need to kill them there. I suggest killing the mothers first, then the lion, then the lioness… But you can slowly move and kill off all the wolves, lions and dogs as long as you don’t attack the den mothers you can get the title.

I’ve done 5 runs trying to get this title and it never works. Do KotBS dmg aura affect whether or not you get the title? Should we start the boss fight and then kill the champs or can we kill the champs in the bosses area without triggering the bosses? I’m starting to think theres another trigger for the title other then running straight to bosses and killing champs.

That’s exactly how my group got it. We made sure not to agrro the mother’s though. so if your kotbs twists in anything that would pull aggro to him well then that might be the issue? I’m not sure though, that’s how we got it.
