Order – Beyond the Sands Guide

April 21, 2009

It’s that time again kiddies! Time for another Live Event which means time for Gaar to go explore. Yay!!!

So, instead of just doing a guide for the Quest, I’m going to make this about all the tasks/unlocks for the Live Event and update it as they’re released/discovered. If anyone would prefer I do it the other way and make everything separate, leave me feedback and I’ll consider it for the next Live Event. I just like one-stop-shopping. :p

Call to Arms: Beyond the Sands (Live Event – April 2009)

The mysterious balloons that have appeared in the skies have come to ground at last. Amid the wreckage lies money, jewels, ancient artifacts … and a mysterious box carved with the image of a long-dead noble.

  • Basic Reward – Elixir of Life (Upon use, it grants the ‘Graverobber’ title.)
  • Advanced Reward – Winged Scorpion (Trophy)
  • Elite Reward – Aviator Goggles: On Equip – Grants you the ability to see hidden Nehekharan Treasure  (These are apparently needed for upcoming Live Event bonuses.)

The Live Event Herald for Beyond the Sands is named Duragin Bitterhelm and is located at 21813, 17561 in Altdorf, near the Flight Master as usual.

General Information

The event lasts from April 20th thru April 27th (at approx 9am EST)Like all other Live Events so far, there are Tier 1, 2, 3, and 4 versions of what needs to be done. For quests, the red quest circle that shows up in the map has been found to be valid for everything I’ve seen so far.

(Side Note: If you do not see a red circle, do the following: Open your tome. Go to the Quest tab. Unclick all the red checkmarks in the right column which is the “Mark on Map” column. Add the red checkmark to the quest you are on. Close tome and look at your map. If it’s still not there, no clue, but this works 99% of the time.)

Live Event Tasks (in no particular order) :

  • Slay an Airship Look Out (Seriously, does no one know grammar any more? Sigh. It’s ‘Lookout’, one word.)
  • Complete Chapter 1 of the Trail of Bones quest in Altdorf
  • Recover 15 Depot Crates
  • Complete Duragin Bitterhelm’s ‘Antiquities Lost’ quest in Altdorf
  • Destroy 25 Sentinel Skeletons
  • Continue Chapter 2 of the Trail of Bones quest in Altdorf
  • Participate in the Fallen Kings PQ
  • Defeat the Liche Priest in the Fallen Kings PQ
  • Complete Calvin Ackmeyer’s ‘Chaos Casket’ quest in Altdorf
  • Complete the Quartermaster’s ‘Secrets of the Sands’ quest at any allied warcamp
  • Kill 10 enemy players on the battlefield
  • Continue Chapter 3 of the Trail of Bones quest in Altdorf
  • Complete all Beyond the Sands Tasks

Side note:  There seem to be camps with Airship Look Outs and Skeletons in all the RvR Lakes.  So if the one you’re in is camped, try a different one.  Also, the Depot Crates spawn in all the lakes too.  I’m almost convinced it’s a node-respawn as opposed to a timer.  The difference being, the nodes are linked and it respawns only when its partner(s) is used as opposed to just being on a timer.

Airship Lookout : roughly 30390, 18536, inside the red circle in the RvR Lake

Trail of Bones Quest Series

Chapter 1: The Trail of Bones

Starting NPC: Korri Oathshield @ (for T1) or Garek Hammershield @ 17756, 36073 (for T2-4) in the War Quarters of Altdorf

I’ll be explaining the version of the quest for Tier 4, but it should be similar in all Tiers but with map locations being different. Just look for your red circles (see side note above). The zones that are used are Ekrund, Marshes of Madness, The Badlands, and Thunder Mountain.  See the Comment from Damgru for T2 and T3 locations via pics.

Part 1 of this quest sends you to Thunder Mountain to visit the Depot and find out why the shipment of Airship Components is late. The area you need to go to is inside the RvR Lake itself. Good times. I found the components at roughly 29508, 20166 in a crate. Apparently they have multiple spawn points for the crates in the combat area. Look around, you’ll find them. Oh, and while you’re at it, kill some Destruction. :p Once finished, turn it back in to Garek in Altdorf for Part 2.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 2 of this quest sends you back to Thunder Mountain to speak to Gittrog Squigspit, a guard at the camp Dwarves are being held prisoner at. Gittrog can be found at 23622, 5784 in the middle of a camp with Dwarf Skeletons and roaming Greenskins in it. Once you talk to him, he gives you Part 3 of the quest.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 3 of this quest has you scout the Depot in the RvR Lake. This is the same area you were previously for Part 1, so get ready to fight some more! Once completed, return to Garek in Altdorf to turn it in.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Chapter 2: The Trail of Bones

Starting NPC: Same as before

Part 1 of this quest sends you to Dragonwake to speak to Gaenarma Mosswind.  She is located at 61215, 21817 in Dragonwake.  She provides you with Part 2.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 2 of this quest has you obtain a Nehekharan Artifact from the Dark Elf camp North of you.  It is in a really nice chest in the back of the camp.  Once obtained, return it to Gaenarma to complete your task.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Chapter 3: The Trail of Bones

Starting NPC: Gaenarma Mosswind, the Elf you completed Chapter 2 with.

Part 1 sends you to the Depot in Thunder Mountain to observe a Nehekharan Skeleton when you use the Nehekharan Artifact on it.  The Artifact is in your Quest Inventory and the Skeleton is around 25034, 23036.   He is actually named “Nehekharan Skeleton” and carries a staff.  He disappears once you use the artifact on him.  Once done, you talk to Aspethor Deathcurse at 24810, 21652 to receive Part 2.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 2 sends you to Dragonwake to find three Nehekharan Artifacts.  The camp you need to go to is located in the PvE zone at 12984, 24286.  Each Dragonbane Warrior you kill counts as one Artifact.  To complete Part 2 and pick up Part 3, move to 10463, 22736 and use the Artifact to make Aspethor appear and talk to him again.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 3 wants you to kill 10 enemy players which coincides nicely with the other task in your Tome, so you may as well do them together.  Once done, talk to Aspethor again in Dragonwake or Thunder Mountain to receive Part 4.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 4 has you summon a Nehekharan Skeleton and follow him to find the Nehekharan Power.  Honestly, I couldn’t get the skeleton to show up, but the item you need to use is in Dragonwake at 11242, 33954.  Once used, return to Aspethor at his location in Dragonwake and talk to him to complete the quest and get Part 5.  (I think you have to try to summon the skeleton by the Aspethor in Dragonwake, but we completed the quest at the one in Thunder Mountain.  That may have bugged us.)

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 5 wants you to collect Nehekharan Relics from around the camp.  These are clickable items scattered all around the camp you are at.  Once you have all three, talk to Aspethor again.  He will move you to Part 6.  Wow, this is a long one.  :p

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 6 is killing the now aggressive Aspethor and his two guards.  Once done, return to Altdorf and talk to Grand Theogonist Volkmar to complete this part and pick up Part 7.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 7 is going to Garek Hammershield in the War Quarters and talking to him.  This is the same person that started the whole series, so you know where he is.  This completes the series.

Rewards: Experience, Gold and Items (My option was the Heavy Funerary Grudgecoat which is a nice cloak with a talisman slot!)

Recover 15 Depot Crates : Pretty self-explanatory.  They’re spread all over the place, in all RvR zones.

Destroy 25 Sentinel Skeletons :  Pretty self-explanatory.  Again, they’re in all RvR zones.

Participate in the Fallen Kings PQ : You pretty much just have to be in the area while it’s going on it seems, at least to me.  As for rewards, I’ve only seen Green Bags drop and was told it had mid-level rewards in it.  Not sure if Gold Bags drop there or not as farming it is a bit difficult…

Defeat the Liche Priest in the Fallen Kings PQ : This is the end-boss of the PQ basically.  Your group has to tag it first to get credit for the kill.  Be nice, if you all have credit already, let someone else tag it first.  :p

Antiquities Lost Quest

Starting NPC: The Herald, Duragin Bitterhelm @ 21813, 17561 in Altdorf, near the Flight Master.

Part 1 of this quest sends you to Thunder Mountain to find a Cargo Manifest and read it.  Once you read it, you will receive Part 2.  There is a pile of papers next to a rock outcropping in the red circle at roughly 17k, 32k.  Examine the papers and then read the Manifest in your Quest Inventory.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 2 of this quest has you find and search a Conspicuous Skeleton.  He is located at roughly 28050, 20598.  Examining him gives you Part 3.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 3 of this quest has you find 5 Nehekharan Artifacts and 1 Depot Crate.  You obtain the Artifacts off the Skeletons in the area you’re in.  Each kill counts as one Artifact.  The Crate is obtained via the usual method.  Once done, return to Duragin for your reward.

Rewards: Experience, Gold, and Items!  Not amazing items, but hey, they could be if you were that level.

Secrets of the Sands

Starting NPC : Any Quartermaster at any Order Warcamp

Part 1 has you travel to Altdorf via Flight Master and speak to the Griffon Quartermaster at The Emperor’s Flying Corps.  He is located at 21931, 16694 by the Flight Master.  Once finished, you will receive Part 2.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 2 has you speak to Calvin Ackmeyer at the Temple of Sigmar.  He is located at 8001, 25529.  Once complete, you will receive your rewards.

Rewards: Experience, Gold and Items

The Chaos Casket

Starting NPC : Calvin Ackmeyer @ 8001, 25529 in Altdorf by The Temple of Sigmar

Part 1 has you go to the Library and find a book called Desert Chronicle.  The book is on the top floor at the end away from the stairs, behind the Librarian that sells the Tome rewards.  Click on it to complete the quest and obtain Part 2.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 2 has you go back to the Temple and speak with Gothard Alexander.  Gothard is the Priest right inside the doors of the Temple.  He will give you Part 3.

Rewards: Experience and Gold

Part 3 of the quest as you search for an intruder in the Temple.  Said intruder is upstairs and is named Fidgety Sister of Faith and when talked to runs a script and becomes attackable.  It has a fast respawn rate, so even if a lot of people are around, just wait and you’ll get it eventually.  Once you have received credit, go downstairs to the front of the Temple and talk to Grand Theogonist Volkmar to finish the quest series.

Rewards: Experience, Gold, the title ‘Darkbane’, and an item called Bone Ward that is usable from your hotbar.  (Bone Ward: Duration – 10s, Cooldown – 1 hour, a little short on duration for that length of cooldown.  I’m out of space in my backpack as it is and there’s other things I’d hit on my toolbar to prevent damage for that short of period.  Maybe it’ll come in handy for boss fights in the new area, who knows.)

Kill 10 Enemy Players on the Battlefield : Pretty self-explanatory.

Complete all Beyond the Sands Tasks : Pretty self-explanatory. Grants the ‘The Eternal’ title.

Achievement Unlocks (in no particular order) :

  • Slay an Airship Look Out (Order Only)
  • Recover 15 Depot Crates
  • Participate in the Fallen Kings PQ
  • Complete the Antiquities Lost quest (Order Only)
  • Defeat the Liche Priest in the Fallen Kings PQ
  • Destroy 25 Sentinel Skeletons

  • Complete Chapter 3 of the Trial of Bones Quest
  • Complete Chapter 1 of the Beyond the Sands Quest (Destro Only)
  • Complete Chapter 2 of the Beyond the Sands Quest (Destro Only)
  • Complete Chapter 3 of the Beyond the Sands Quest (Destro Only)

………………………………………………………….

This should be pretty complete now.  Overall, the rewards are pretty decent.  I can’t use any of the blue gear from the quests, but the Cloak has a nice graphic on it and a talisman slot, which will make people happy.  The goggles are now on and will probably stay on for a while unless I need wards for something, I don’t mind losing some stats for a bit.  :p

Overall, the Live Event is pretty good.  I liked that it put people in the RvR zone, but it did cause a lot of drama between the pure RvR people and the ones that were only there for the Live Event.  Oh well, honestly I think the RvR people need to have some fun occasionally.  Besides, the others wouldn’t have been there anyway if not for the Live Event so either you can handle it or you can’t.  Myself, I like taking breaks from RvR as it wears me out at times.

So, I hope you enjoyed the Live Event as much as I did.  I’m gonna go find me some hidden treasure now as it’s already been placed in-game.  Go get some for yourself!  Oh, and by the way, have some fun while you’re at it!

Wish I did. If I could find a Destro player that did guides like this right away each time, I’d link them for every event.

Where is the Fallen Kings PQ?

    • gaarawarr permalink
      April 21, 2009 1:33 pm

I don’t know yet. I don’t even know that it’s part of this Live Event, it was just as guess. If it shows up, I’ll put a location. If it doesn’t, I’ll remove it. So far, the revealed items match some of my guesses except the ones that showed ??? were text and not unlocks so I’ll be wrong on 3.
Edit: removed the three I think won’t be unlocks. The PQ should show up in the next couple days and will definitely be in an RvR lake based on past history.

I can’t see the red circles for my Tier 4 guy. Can you include locations for all of that stuff please? I’ve tried the Mark on Map check box (unchecking and then rechecking) and it was a no go. :-\

    • gaarawarr permalink
      April 21, 2009 7:02 pm

Did you uncheck all of them and only re-check the Live Event quest and then close the tome? Because it’s rare that it doesn’t work. Also, I have rough coordinates for everything I think, so not sure what you need.

Btw, talking about Antiquities Lost Quest … Part 1 … when you say the Red Circle …

Ahhh…gotcha. Roughly 17k, 32k on the mesa in the middle. I’ll add that in.

I tried to disable my QuestTrackerHelper addon, but that didn’t seem to make a difference. So thank you very much. 🙂 Much easier than trying to get the dang red circles to work.

Ahh…yeah, I’m not sure how the addons affect the circles. I don’t use any quest-related addons at all.

I’m not sure if 1.2.1 broke the circles on the map. but I have to clear them all and just put the ones that are in the zone for it to work.

    • gaarawarr permalink
      April 22, 2009 12:12 pm

Well, what started the issue in the first place is when they upped the number of quests you could carry total. There are only X number of quest markers allowed to be shown on a map at any given time right now. So the best way to make sure your circles show up is to always turn them all off and only turn on the ones you want to do. The Devs have stated they are going to look into this in the future and change it, but it’s not been a high priority.

      April 27, 2009 8:59 am

On an off note, I have noticed that you are allotted a certain number of quest that can be mapped with red circles, same as only a certain number of quests on interface tracker/display. My suggestion is to go to the tome- quests and uncheck everything you dont want.

    • gaarawarr permalink
      April 27, 2009 3:15 pm

Yeah, there was a Dev comment about this in a past interview and they confirmed that you only have X number that can be shown on the map at any one time and it was fine before they upped the number of quests you could hold overall. They want to fix it, but it’s obviously not of the highest priority.

For the skelly on Chapter 3.. stand right at the coornates above. once you use the artifact the skelly will pop. quickly target it and use the artifact again. Ppl are farming (trying to get there stuff) and are killing skellys as soon as they pop.

Great guide, very useful. Have a quick question – I’m just about ready to move onto Day 3’s tasks but I still have one task left from Day 1 which is to collect the 15 crates. Its next to impossible in the Marshes of Madness I’m finding on our EU server due to the sheer amount of Destro camping out at any one time and the slow respawn. We held control of an area for a while where I got two previously but couldn’t find any more. Is there another area I can go to try collect them?

    • gaarawarr permalink
      April 23, 2009 3:41 am

The crates can be found in any RvR zone, so you can go to a different area and find them if you wish.

Which is to say, if you don’t mean being a chicken (and one shotted) you could check out the lower RvR zones where everything is closer together … hint hint 😉

So I need more kills and crates, and I’m on ORvR

Since noone was working together last night (until REALLY late) I suppose my rank 15 engineer might have a much better go of wrapping that piece up of it in T1 rather than T2 if the same thing happens?

I can do so even though I’ve done everything else so far in T2?
Hmm, might try that out tonight, see what else I can do that way too.

[Got tired of giving a Rank 24 Choppa a bunch of free kills @R14 =b]

Cheers thanks, My level is 18 so perhaps if I tried a different RvR zone thats around the same level as mine but not as popular at the moment as MoM I might have better luck getting those – if all fails I’ll give in and try the one-shot route just to get it done lol

There should still be 7 acheivements remaining. 4 on the first page and 2 on the second that do not correlate with any of the tasks. Have you found any of these and if so please explain. And what is the cahpter 1 and all of the beyond the sands quest? Is this destro only?

The achievements that do not open up for Order correspond to the Destro-only versions of the Live Event unlocks. The Beyond the Sands Quest is Destro’s version of Trail of Bones and I’ve updated the post to reflect that.
