Weekend Warfront: Howling for Blood

July 9, 2010

After a holiday weekend off, the Weekend Warfronts are back…

…with another repeat?

Well, at least it has a new reward…

…but what the hell is it?  And why do we still have the crappy potions?

Oh well.  Let’s take a look at what we have in store this weekend!

~Gaar

The war-scarred landscape of Black Crag rings once again with the sounds of battle as Order and Destruction forces descend upon the Howling Gorge.  Here among the labyrinthine gorges, the struggle for control of Dwarf engineered “boom-powder” ignites a conflagration of violence not seen in years.

Howling for Blood – Weekend Event (July 9th-12th, 2010)

The Howling Gorge scenario is open again for characters of all levels!  Defeat your enemies!  Intercept Black Powder Barrels to seal your victory!  /howl at friends and enemies alike!  Complete all four tasks to gain a unique title and remember to have a good time!

  • Basic Reward – Level-appropriate Healing potion

  • Advanced Reward – Level-appropriate Molotov potion

  • Elite Reward – Celebratory Horn (Pocket Item)

So they have enough time to make a new end-reward item, but they can’t change the Basic and Advanced rewards?  Come on, this is just getting ridiculous.  You don’t have to make them amazing, just make them viable.  People throw those away for the most part when they craft them, why the hell would anyone think they’d make a viable reward for an event, even a 3-day one?  If you’re gonna leave them the stupid potions, at least make them the blue versions and stacks of 5-10.  Not that anyone will care much even then, but it’s better than this crap.  /rantoff

The Live Event Herald for Order is named Kadius Kridt and is located at (26776, 30868) by the Flight Master in Altdorf.  The Live Event Herald for Destruction is named Kralf Hexenkrieger and is located at (29455, 32368) by the Flight Master in the Inevitable City.

General Information

Howling for Blood started on July 9th and will last until the morning of July 12th.  The task list is the same regardless of Tier/Realm.

There is a bonus to Experience and Renown while in this Scenario, making it the place to be this weekend!

Note: I pull some amazing renown gains out of the Weekend Warfront scenarios (ie: well over 10k for multiple scenarios), so it’s definitely worth it to queue for this scenario simply for that 10% bonus.

Like the zone it used to belong to, the Howling Gorge is a collection of twisting and winding pathways that can get one turned around in a heartbeat.  Learn the map and its shortcuts and victory is yours!

Weekend Event Tasks

  • Successfully plant 25 Powder Kegs  (has to be you)
  • Intercept 50 Powder Kegs  (just cross paths with the person holding the bomb)
  • /howl at a player of every career while in the Howling Gorge (howling at yourself counts!)

  • Participate in the Howling Gorge scenario 20 times (Do it for the renown!)
  • Complete all the Howling for Blood tasks

Soooo…same task list, different end reward.  A decaying pocket item?  Interesting.  No clue what it does, but based on the tooltip, I’m speculating on dancing.  😉  But then…THERE’S NO DANCING IN WAR!!!!

I’m gonna try to get it anyways.  I need the renown.  See ya out there!

Title: Bombadier General

Good luck!

It looks like one of those annoying noise makers from the World Cup. You know the ones that sound like a hive of bees when watching.

Oh, I know what it IS, I’m more curious about what exactly it does….other than make noise. Guess I’ll find out shortly.

I got it.. I was disappointed it wasn’t longer. IMO its more of a triumphant horn sound then a vuvuzela. With a cooldown of 30 mins, its not really fun.

    Vuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

I don’t like the “must be you” part of these events… It makes what should be a team activity into an individual activity. If only one person gets credit for the bomb, you have people competing to get the bomb, like in Talabec Dam.

I’m also not a fan of the Do X to all 24 Careers tasks because certain classes simply don’t show up sometimes… *shrugs* But that’s a little more doable.

I agree, I been complaining about that since the 1st warfront. I have to queue solo to do them so I can been a individual. If I go in with my regular group, I can not finish the event. Plus one of the “must be you” events (Doomfist Crater) took me ALLLLLL weekend solo to do it. I have a tuff time completing these on my Main and then try to do it with a alt for the extra XP/RP.

I agree, They have time to make the horn, but not the other 1st 2 rewards. I dont mind that they are green, just give us more.. Make it worth while.

Its the same as the talsman for the chapter inf. Instead of +2 str they should be +8 or more. At least the potions for the chapter inf are mulitple items.

ANDDDDD give us a new Sc. We can not have run out by now..

A few more left … we still have Gromril Crossing, Grovod Caverns, Maw of Madness, Reikland Hills, and Thunder Valley.

I like the new unique reward but one that expires? With that kind of task list at least make the item permanent.

There’s where I disagree. None of these mini-events should have a permanent reward. Everything should be on a timer. As long as it’s an enjoyable/desirable reward, it gives people a reason to keep doing them. And if you don’t want it, fine, you don’t have to do it. However, if it was permanent, people would feel compelled to get it as it would most likely only show up once.

    • July 10, 2010 3:20 pm

I feel it would make completing the event more a must for players if the reward was something permanent that might never be available again … like the Captain’s Chronometer pocket item from Beyond the Sands (was it).

Yes, but that is an actual Live Event you’re talking about. These are not. These are weekend mini-events. If you provide a permanent item, there’s only two ways to do it. Either it’s only available once, or it’s available multiple times. If it’s something someone wants, they’ll feel compelled to give up their weekend trying to obtain it since you only have a 3-day window. If it’s available multiple times, people will get it once and then not bother to do the weekend events when the reward is the same. Kind of like how it is now with the repeats and the Title remaining the same since the other rewards are pointless. Only by having items that are desirable and that are either consumable or decaying is there a motivation to do the event each weekend. Even then, that won’t motivate people to do them all the time. Only by making them enjoyable will that happen, regardless of the reward. Currently, they’re not due to the consistently buggy nature of some of the requirements.

I don’t think I have come close to getting any of the 3rd tier items.

So i have decided to give up on this WW since the drop off point for the bomb is unclickable for me. I’ve sent a bug report and 2 CSR tickets with no help. When someone does finally get the item plz put up what it does as I’m always interested in new toys.

25 drop offs is way too many. 10-15 would be doable.
