Weekend Warfront – Battle at the Gate

April 2, 2010

This week, the warfront moves to the rolling hills of Ellyrion for the Battle at the Gate!

The tasks look doable, albeit challenging.

Let’s take a look at what the weekend has in store!

The Phoenix Gate guards the entrance to the inner lands of Ulthuan; soft rolling landscapes where in more peaceful ages the Ellyrion Horselords bred Elven Steeds.  Now the plains are filled with signs of war – siege engines and corpses litter the landscape as Order and Destruction forces vie for control of the Phoenix Gate and all that lies beyond.

Battle at the Gate – Weekend Warfront (April 2nd – 5th, 2010)

The Phoenix Gate scenario is open again for characters of all levels!  Struggle for control of flags: claim your enemy’s flag and deliver it safely to your side, intercept enemy flag bearers and slaughter their comrades in arms.  Beat your enemies into submission and claim a 500 point victory at the Phoenix Gate!

  • Basic Reward – Level-appropriate Healing potion

  • Advanced Reward – Level-appropriate Molotov potion

  • Elite Reward – Vanquisher’s Boon – Buff that awards extra Emblems from Scenarios based on the score.

The Live Event Herald for Order is named Kadius Kridt and is located at (26776, 30868) by the Flight Master in Altdorf.  The Live Event Herald for Destruction is named Kralf Hexenkrieger and is located at (29455, 32368) by the Flight Master in the Inevitable City.

General Information

Battle at the Gate started on April 2nd and will last until April 5th.  The task list is the same regardless of Tier/Realm.

There is a bonus to Experience and Renown while in this Scenario, making it the place to be this weekend!

Note: I have pulled some amazing renown gains out of the Weekend Warfront scenarios (ie: well over 10k for multiple scenarios), so it’s definitely worth it to queue for this scenario simply for that 10% bonus.

First, not my favorite scenario in the world.  It can be fun, but usually only when your side has a decent team.  When it doesn’t, it’s spawncamp city.  Which is one of the reasons it was removed as a permanent scenario option.

That being said, the ruleset for this scenario has been adjusted for this weekend’s warfront.  The only way to gain points is by capturing the flag.  I’ll say that again: THE ONLY WAY TO GAIN POINTS IS BY CAPTURING THE FLAG.  If the other Realm has a flag and so do you, the dropoff moves to the middle bridge where there are flags you click on instead.

Interesting changes.  People are whining already.  Frankly, I like it.  Yeah, I said it.  I like it.  Why?  Because now it’s not about some jackass going off by himself and ganking stragglers or soloing the flag.  Now you need to move as a team to achieve your goal and win.  Period.  Changes that promote teamwork are ones I can live with.

That being said, expect a lot of 500-0 and 0-500 matches this weekend.

Weekend Event Tasks

  • Claim the Order/Destruction flag 10 times
  • Successfully deliver the flag 5 times during the Phoenix Gate scenario
  • Defeat 100 enemy realm players in the Phoenix Gate scenario
  • Win a Phoenix Gate scenario with 500 points
  • Complete all the Battle at the Gate tasks

Pretty straightforward.  With the changes to how you gain points, it should be easy to get your flag runs while also fun to get your kills.  Well, as long as your team works together that is.  hehe.

Gonna take a stab at guessing this weekend’s title, don’t be mad if I’m wrong…or right.  😉

Title: Gate Warden

Good luck!

The event started thursday in germany and I knew some people who already have the title. Indeed, it’s “Gate Keeper”.

Awesome! Glad to see they got it earlier than us for a change.

Good Friday is a holiday in germany, think that’s why they changed it a bit earlier.

Unfortunately 2 tasks once again are solo only.

Not necessarily man. While yes, only one person can pick up the flag, it always works better if it’s done as a team effort. Since the points are assigned that way, works out well.

Actually the title here in america is “Gate Warden”. Gatekeeper was awarded for completing the Gates of Ekrund Weekend LE a long time ago.

So correction: Order title is “Gate Warden”

Dammit, you’re right – my bad.

We were joking around with “goalkeeper”, because when I read “Goal Warden” we were guessing what it might be translated to in German. And because of goalkeeper (the football thing^^) being the equivalent of the German word, I messed up the title – sorry. -_-

Well, as already said it’s a holiday here and I’ve been able to play some Phoenix Gates Thursday and a bit on Friday. 🙂

Ah … now I see why you won’t be around next weekend … congrats on the Mythic Tour! I enjoyed your writeups from last year when you went.

Hope you can get some juicy info out of them on the next patch and perhaps about the expansion rumors.

    Have a good time!

Oh, I’m sure questions about said rumors will be asked. Whether or not they’ll be allowed to be asked on the record or not is a whole other story. lol
