Land of the Dead – The Achievements

March 24, 2010

A recent discussion on the Forums reminded me that I had this post stuffed away out of sight in my “Drafts” folder but had never been able to finish it.

One of the reasons is that it’s based on Tome Unlocks and a lot of them haven’t been discovered yet.  That spawns another reason: I hate posting stuff that isn’t complete.  At least, when it’s not a Live Event Guide.  Those tend to foster the “Work-in-Progress” mentality and I wasn’t sure a post like this would.

Guess we’re about to find out.  😉

So, please read on and join me in attempting to discover all the hidden Land of the Dead Achievements.  I have the road map set, just need to fill in the blanks some.

So, the Land of the Dead has been out a while now and apparently, not only did we get new enemies with the new zone, we also got new Achievement unlocks as well.  Yay!  You know me, I’m a Tome-aholic, so the more unlocks they sneak into the new zone, the better.

What I’ve found great about this new zone and its unlocks is that there are two types of Achievement unlocks.  Sneaky, sneaky Mythic.  They have one category with a handful of easy-to-find unlocks under the Exploration category that, once completed, make you think you’ve done it all.  Wrong!  By reviewing comments made by Devs and through some successful exploration I believe there is another set of unlocks for doing some really unusual things.

So, without further ado, here is the list for both the Exploration and Dungeon Achievement unlocks for the Land of the Dead.  Now all we have to do is fill in the blanks…

I’ve found that in some cases, the lore text can give hints toward uncovering unlocks in this game.  So, with that in mind, I’m including all applicable lore text from these unlocks in the hopes it helps us to find the others…or maybe something else new and undiscovered!  I still firmly believe there are hidden treasures still to be found in this zone…

If you have completed some that I have blank, please leave a comment that includes the name of the unlock, its location in the list, and the reward as I’ve done with the others.  If there is lore text, please include that as well.

Happy Hunting!!

Exploration Achievement Unlocks

Of King Amenemhetum’s living days, little is known.  It has been said that clues to the Vulture Lord’s existence prior to his death can be found throughout Zandri, so long as interested individuals are dedicated enough to find them.

  • The Stela of Ahara (XP)

Kneel, O child of distant years, upon this spot most honored.  By kind decree of King Amenemhetum the Great, this area shall be known as sacred unto his kingdom.  For here Vulture Lord did invest the Office of Ahara, Pillar of the Sun, Tactician of the Throne upon a loyal subject.

A great general and husband to many wives, having crushed full 15,000 foes beneath his war chariot, won the favor of Amenemhetum.  With wisdom the Vulture Lord did cause the warrior to come before him and be named Saa Khasef, he who speaks matters of war.

Taking his staff of rule, the Vulture Lord broke one fourth of Ialu’s Scepter and bestowed it upon Saa Khasef, bidding him guard the treasure as a man guards his daughter’s virtue, for invested in the staff is the power of the Casket of Souls.

And Saa Khasef praised the Gods for his victory.

(Yes, they totally screwed up the guys name over and over and I fixed it here…sigh)

  • The Stela of Ahaphet (XP)

Lower thy eyes, stranger!  Here hath trod the feet of King Amenemhetum the Great.  Well does he love this place.  For here the Vulture Lord did invest the Office of Ahaphet, Pillar of the Sky, Vizier of the Throne upon a loyal subject.

A maiden came to King Amenemhetum as he bathed and betgged him solve her woe.  Fore her father desired her wed to the sworn foe of her mother’s family.  Placing the chain of the concubine about her ankle, she vowed to serve the King instead, even past the veil of death.

The Vulture Lord looked and saw her eyes flashed like the disc of Ptra, and her limbs were like honeyed gold.  Speaking in royal decree he called her wise, for who but the King may over rule a father’s wishes?  Knowing the man who was to be her husband, he called her cunning, for was he not a dung merchant with teeth yellow as a Jackal’s eyes?

Causing the chain removed, he named her Bennu Aphet, Mistress of arts political, and gave unto her clothing of net and many jewels.  Into her hands he delivered one fourth of Ialu’s Scepter.  With the solemnity of hte Gods he bid Bennu Aphet clasp it as close to her as the Royal Person, even more so, for within the Scepter is locked the power of the Casket of Souls.

And Bennu Aphet praised the Gods for her cunning.

  • The Stela of Ahataht (XP)

Bow, seeker of history, before this monument!  Here at the pleasure of Amenemhetum the Great upon a loyal subject was invested the Office of Ahataht, Pillar of the Moon, Magician of the Throne.

It came to be that Amenemhetum did desire a master sorcerer for his kingdom.  Then a Priest of distant Ka-Sabar came forth.  With heavy heart, the King saw him, for are not the men of Ka-Sabar known for their lies and their loving of horses?

And the Priest did summon a scorpion, and cause it to become gold, and did sever the heads of seventy slaves with but a look, and did cure people of the Great Loin Itch and did a great many other things.

And the Vulture Lord knew then that the Priest was truly a man of magic, and named him Hapu Shebikef, sevenfold Sorcerer.  Into his care he gave one fourth of Ialu’s Scepter, and bid him ward it tighter than the tongues of his wives, for within the Scepter lies the power of the Casket of Souls.

And Hapu Shebikef praised the Gods for his marital joy.

  • The Stela of Ahasebah (XP)

Silence traveler!  Respect the decree of Amenemhetum the Great, who caused these writings graven here, at this noble site, where the Vulture Lord did invest the Office of Ahasebah, Council of the Throne upon a loyal subject.

One night, the Vulture Lord came to be attacked by a great crocodile.  The hateful beast gripped the Royal Foot in its impious jaws.  Seeking to test his people’s loyalty, for truly, King Amenemhetum could best the beast if he so chose, the Vulture Lord cried out for help.

And the pleasure maids and nobles did shriek in fear and flee and look to the heir for favor.  It was so that a passing night fisherman did free the King.  Great was Amenemhetum’s wrath, and he called for the nobles and maids be flung into the pit of Scarabs, and the heir to be crowned in molten silver.

To the fisherman he had great love, and gave him a new hand of gold, and nobility and named him Tsekani Heyafa, friend of five fingers.  More precious still, Amenemhetum gave Tsekani Heyafa one fourth of Ialu’s Scepter and bid him treasure it as he treasured Amenemhetum’s friendship, for within the gift lay the key to the Casket of Souls.

And Tsekani Heyafa praised the Gods for his good fortune.

Reward is rarely without peril in the Old World, and the Land of the Dead is no exception.  For every hazard faced by an intrepid hero in this blighted and wasted place, there is often a reward that is commensurate to the risk.

There are three two trophies on the vendor in Altdorf that I have not found the associated unlock for but should show up in this list.  The trophies are:  Canopic Jar of the Vulture Lord, and Canopic Jar of the Jackal, and Canopic Jar of the Skeleton.

I also know there should be some more titles associated with this zone that I’ve seen but haven’t unlocked myself yet.  Mummy’s Boy/Girl is one that I believe comes from completing the entire dungeon, but haven’t confirmed yet on my account.  There should be more as well.

Possible Unlocks to Verify:

*Completing every PQ

*Completing Tomb of the Vulture Lord without anyone dieing (good luck!)

Possible Titles to Verify:

*The Unpurgeable

I had heard awhile back that there was a title linked with completing the Pyramid without dying. Not sure if this is true or not, but maybe someone can come out and confirm it.

Also, I checked those canopic jar unlocks and the one for the Vulture Lord appears to become purchaseable (unlocked) when you complete “Kill all the pyramid bosses” x1. It just doesnt show the unlock item in the tome. Must be a bug just like the scarab construct item unlock.
As for the jackel canopic jar, I’m still figuring it out.

I had heard that as well, among other rumors related to the dungeon itself, but no one that I know has been able to pull off such a feat…yet.

I know you can get the title “The Unpurgable” but dont know how many times you have to repel a purge to get it.

I had heard, there maybe a achievement for compliting ALL PQ on you and enemy side of LoD

Yeah, I heard that as well but despite having completed them all, I didn’t get it. I actually did them all on the day it released. Could have been bugged back then though, so I’ll have to try and do it again.

Added. Do I have the first one in the wrong position at 6 then or is there something in 7, like downing it 10 times?

Your 6th position is correct (Participate in Destroying the Enemy Airship) and my 7th position is still ???. It does seem weird that the 8th position is x20 with nothing in between.

It could be x10 and be bugged. Wouldn’t surprise me. hehe

this is a post i made a while back about ‘possible’ secrets in the zone. I have also noticed since then that some of the skelly mobs walking along the river cast a spell on the door of an unused lair. the lair then shows a large magical barrier of some discription. possibly a hidden lair or future update? or maybe a simple animation.

Yeah, there are definitely a lot of things that seem to be clues scattered throughout the zone. However, as with a lot of things in WAR, the clues are almost too vague. For example, there are still dozens of items related to possible Tome Unlocks that people have not been able to track down at all.

Ugh. OK, details. What exactly does that mean? 2 hours straight with the other Realm attacking? 2 hours compiled over time with the other Realm attacking? That one’s just messed up. lol

Confirmed defending the Zepplin for 2 hours unlock. Just got it this morning. Apparently once destro has control of LotD all you have to do is stand near the WC where you see the PQ chest icon appear on the upper right screen. Then you just have to stay there w/out leaving the pq area for 2 hrs (not 2 hrs starting from the moment destro flips it, just 2 hrs from when you enter the pq area). It does not require any actual defending (meaning destro does not have to attack during the pq). The only issue is hoping destro controls LotD for the whole 2 hrs you’re there.

Interesting. There are definitely times where one side controls it for quite a while. We’ll see if I have the patience to stand around that long though. hehe

A question about the “Participate in Destroying Enemy Airship – 20 (XP + Title: Desert Raider)” unlock …

Does this give credit for taking part in the “Assault on Dusty Dry” PQ or for only taking out the enemy airship?

    • gaarawarr permalink
      April 9, 2010 7:54 pm

I have never personally been the one to destroy the Airship and yet have the unlock for destroying one, so I think we can safely say that participating nets you the tick.

Ok, I know this has kinda an old topic, but I’ve just recieved the tome unlock for completeing the airship pq 20 times when in fact I completed it only 10 times. This explains the reason why the x10 unlock never worked. It has the wrong trigger for the unlock. I’m gonna try to complete it 20 times to see if I get the x10 unlock but i doubt thatll do the trick. I’m also bug reporting it and CSRing it. If anyone reads this plz do the same.
