Weekend Warfront: Blood Basin

March 19, 2010

It’s Friday, Friday, Friday!

That means it’s time for another Weekend Warfront!

This time, with an easy-to-do Task List.

Rejoice!

~Gaar

The blackened environs of Black Fire Pass are home to one of the bloodiest battles yet seen.  The clash of steel on steel does little to drown out the screams of the wounded as Order and Destruction forces struggle for dominance on the blood-mired snow.

Blood Basin – Weekend Event (March 19th – 22nd, 2010)

The Black Fire Basin scenario is open again for characters of all levels!  This weekend only join in the joy of slaughter as enemy forces clash in this legendary local!

  • Basic Reward – Level-appropriate Healing potion

  • Advanced Reward – Level-appropriate Molotov potion

  • Elite Reward – Vanquisher’s Boon – Buff that awards extra Emblems from Scenarios based on the score.

The Live Event Herald for Order is named Kadius Kridt and is located at (26776, 30868) by the Flight Master in Altdorf.  The Live Event Herald for Destruction is named Kralf Hexenkrieger and is located at (29455, 32368) by the Flight Master in the Inevitable City.

General Information

Blood Basin started on March 19th and will last until March 22nd.  The task list is the same regardless of Tier/Realm.

There is a bonus to Experience and Renown while in this Scenario, making it the place to be this weekend!

Note: I have pulled some amazing renown gains out of the Weekend Warfront scenarios (ie: well over 10k for multiple scenarios), so it’s definitely worth it to queue for this scenario simply for that 10% bonus.

Pretty straightforward map.  I mean, sure, it’s got places to run around on the sides, but I’ve never really seen people bother to do that much unless they were truly being camped.  Which happens.  A lot.  If you have the time (and why wouldn’t you in the heat of battle), pan your camera up to look straight down into the ice below the spike.  😉

Weekend Event Tasks

  • Eliminate enemy Realm Greenskins/Dwarfs (50)
  • Eliminate enemy Realm servants of Chaos/the Empire (50)
  • Eliminate enemy Realm Dark Elves/High Elves (50)
  • Complete all Blood Basin tasks

Two weeks in a row with good news.  This time, zero “Carry X” tasks despite it being a flag scenario.  Good times.  That being said, did the pendulum swing a little too far?  This seems overly simplistic and really flippin’ easy.  Yeah, I can’t be pleased.  I’m called a “gamer”. 😉

As an aside, who writes these things up?  Can we get some proofreading?  I’m fairly certain that I don’t have any “friendly Realm Greenskins” on my server that I can kill.  So why add the descriptive?  Not quite as bad as the infamous, and now oft-seen due to a bug, “Slay an Airship Look Out” but it’s pretty darn close.

Order Title: Grisly Knight

Destruction Title: Lord of Gore

Hidden Bonuses

Well, no one seems to find any so this will probably be the last time I’ll get my hopes up.  hehe

Enjoy!

I hope to be able to do a few of these, unfortunately on my servers Scenarios have become an AFK fest.

While I do see people AFK, I’ve yet to see even an entire group AFK, let alone an entire Scenario. So shouldn’t be a reason everyone can’t do this one.

i laugh so hard every time i get the Airship Lookout unlock on my tier 1 toons. Especially how long its been like that. I remember actually getting it on my WP when LOTD came out, i forgot what an airship lookout was until i read the land of the dead event guide on your blog hehe.

And on a completely unrelated note, P.Q. crawl for dwarf sometime soon maybe? =D

Ah cool so they are continuing the trend. More battlegrounds to farm honor points and less open world pvp. I guess in everyone’s heart they really do want to play World of Warcraft.

Honestly, your comment doesn’t make sense. They removed most of the scenarios from the game and now have it streamlined and only include one bonus scenario on weekends. So I’m not sure how that equates to “more battlegrounds”.

Scenarios have been a WAR staple since it released. They were supposed to offer the ability for a casual player to log in and get some instant action. They never quite worked out that way. With the addition of the new tokens and items, they actually have started to provide this instant action for people like they were always meant to. I don’t see how that can be seen as a bad thing.

Just as with the release of LotD, there has been a decrease in Open RvR. However, I don’t see this staying constant. Once people have their new shinies to play with, they’ll go back to ORvR. Especially if the City changes pan out well.

Oh and just to clarify, Star Wars Galaxies had Battlegrounds long before WoW ever released…so by your logic, truthfully, everyone just wants to play SWG again. I’m down with that. 😉

I actually think the tasks are inline with this SC. The main thign about this SC is the killing. Total domination so the tasks make sense. Pile up the bodies. The weekend warfront should’nt be the only thing we are doing on the weekends. Should be easy to complete.

Perhaps Mythic has simply responded to player feedback. If the rewards are going to be so humdrum … maybe the tasks should be.

We agree that last week’s “run the keg” task was pretty demanding. I pugged practically the whole weekend and it took me near 50 scenarios to complete that task. We both love to get titles but is that enough for a weekend event? The rewards themselves surely are not. The Basic and Advanced Rewards are what they are … but perhaps if the Elite Reward lasted longer than a single day it would be more worthwhile. You play over the weekend and should you complete that Warfront, you get the Elite Reward and can benefit from extra Emblems all week or perhaps a few days. Sure the new RvR weapons are the big draw to scenarios now but if I’m going to devote a lot more time towards them on weekends it would be nice to see some more enticing rewards: Additional Titles, Pocket Items, Trophies, Rare Drops, a Bag of Tokens/Emblems, Tome Unlocks.

Hopefully these evolve a bit more … I do enjoy the pops we see with scenarios now and it’s nice to have more folks interested in running them. I’m surprised we’re getting Black Fire Basin again so soon … we just got to run it a few months ago during Keg End.

One can hope they’re responding to feedback. However, there’s no way to know. All of these could have been set in stone long before they released the first one. Without hearing otherwise from them, it’s all speculation.

As has oft been discussed already, there’s lots of ways they could give better Basic and Advanced Rewards to encourage people to at least participate in the Warfront Scenario even if they don’t complete it. This would be win-win in my opinion as it would increase the pops for that scenario allowing more access and more fun.

I’d much rather see the rewards made a bit better and the tasks balanced out than just see it all go “humdrum bleh” on us. We have enough of that in WAR, don’t need more.

    Good stuff Gaar!

Do you know why the reward Vanquisher’s boon was made to be such a temporary and minor reward for the Live Event? I know this weeks task list is fairly simple, but prior events it just didnt seem worth the time.

    See you on the battlefield!

Well, it’s 24 hours and you can keep using the book to refresh the buff until the book’s timer disappears. So technically, if you get it on the first day, you can keep using it for 3-4 days. I’d think the idea would be that it provides a small boost to your token gain but not a permanent one since you can get it again the next weekend.

Hmm…that’s interesting. First time I’ve heard of different titles for these for each Realm. Can anyone else confirm?

Updated. Thanks guys! Let me know if that happens again in the future as I tend to not complete them on my Destro toons. hehe

Finally, I was able to complete the event tasks on not one, but TWO characters, AND still have a normal weekend. Looks like Mythic is learning how to balance 3 day events.

And, Mr. Gaarawarr, you are still my hero for compiling all this information.
