Starting a New Blog…

September 8, 2009

It seems like the big fad lately among WAR bloggers is to close up shop on their WAR blog and start a new one, either about a different game or about gaming in general.

I’ve never been one to jump on the fad bandwagon, but I must say, I’ve been itching to start a new blog lately.  Somewhere along the road on my US Tour, I came to the conclusion that I was going to have to bite the bullet and just do it.

So, I did.

Before anyone starts wondering…No, I’m not quitting WAR and no, I’m not going to close Gaarawarr Gabs.

I’m never one to start something like this without some kind of plan formulated, whether it works or not, so I sat down and made a list of what I’d need to do before I made any of this available for public consumption.  Here’s the list of things I decided I’d need to have in place if I was going to start a new blog:

  • A theme – Whether you’re focusing solely on one thing or combining all kinds of things into one blog, the theme should be easily apparent to those visiting your site for the first time.  Incorporating it into the name is an option in some cases, but in others, you’ll have to find a good, coherent way to bring your theme together outside of that.  Good luck.
  • A name – duh.  But seriously, there are good names and there are bad names.  In my case, the name came easy.  That doesn’t always happen though.  So, if you’re looking to start your first blog, or just start a new one, don’t underestimate how important this step of creation is.
  • A blog site/web site – Whether you host it yourself or use a hosting site, it pays to research your options.  When I started GG, I chose WordPress.com seemingly at random.  I did almost zero research.  Luckily, it’s offered just about everything I need for my blogging.  However, for my new blog, I compared both WordPress.com and Blogspot features (to the point of actually creating the blog on blogspot first to see what it looked like) before finally deciding to stick with WordPress.  I’m just too used to its features now to want to switch and learn a new platform.  Weigh your options, you’ll be happier in the end which leads to more blogging!
  • A healthy dose of FUN – It should be readily apparent by now that I love having fun.  I knew that from the moment someone hit my new site, whether they’d read one of my posts before or not, I wanted them to know I made it to have fun.  Considering the first reaction to my site amongst my focus-group was laughter upon the site loading, I think I’ve succeeded so far.

So, what is this new blog of which I speak?

Gaarawarr…Jogs?!?

Check it out and let me know what you think.  hehe

And be forwarned…

The Apocalypse begins on 9/9/9…
