The Wild Hunt – Live Event Guide

August 31, 2009

The Hunt is on!!!

Today brings us the start of not just the newest Live Event from Mythic, but also the kick-off of their 1-year Anniversary celebration!  As always, I will try to cover as much of the Live Event information as possible.  While I play Order, occasionally I get some help from Destruction spies friends who help me flesh out the details for their Realm as well so everything can be found all in one place.

I will do my best to update this as new information is obtained, and as I get a break from playing, hehe.  :p

Enjoy!!!

The Elven God of the Hunt has stalked the mortal lands since time immemorial.  Year in and year out, the High Elves gather to honor Kurnous with a sacred hunt, where the best of the best try to prove themselves Master Hunters in the eyes of the greatest hunter of them all.

But with the war raging on, the practice has faltered … and the God of the Hunt is angry.  No longer do skillful mortals hunt to feed their families; instead, hardened soldiers scour the woods and meadows of all available game.  No longer do hunters  observe sacred rites; they kill only to test their skills, and leave their prey to rot on the battlefields…

The God of the Hunt can brook no more!  The hunter’s moon has risen!  The horn of Kurnous has sounded! Let those who honor the ancient traditions pay heed — and let all who slaughter with abandon tremble!

The Wild Hunt (Live Event – September 2009)

The Wild Hunt is upon the Elves and Ulthuan is already sodden with blood.  Hunters stalk the fields and forests in search of rare and savage prey, to demonstrate their skill to the God of the Hunt and perhaps gain his favor.  Others seek merely to glimpse the fabled White Stag and gain Kurnous’ blessing.  But Kurnous is a true hunter and incurring his wrath carries a price … of poetic justice.

Players who please Kurnous may receive a Bleeding Heart Charm or the Fleet Stag Mantle.  In Elf RvR lands, players can vie to capture Vale Vines and unlock an exclusive new zone: the Hunter’s Vale, where the God of the Hunt tests their mettle.  The truly lucky may sight the White Stag as it wanders from zone to zone — and the truly unlucky may encounter the vicious Hounds of Kurnous, guardians of the sacred oaks.

  • Basic Reward – Hartsblood Draft – Fine wine laced with the blood of a royal stag, this draft is said to loosen the wild side that lurks within every great hunter.  ~Grants the Title “Wild Hunter”
  • Advanced Reward – Stag Skull Trophy – The skulls of white stags killed in previous years are often given out during the Wild Hunt.  They are said to be lucky, aiding the hunter in slaying his prey.

Trophy onStag Skull Trophy

  • Elite Reward – Bleeding Heart Charm – Carved by Huntsmen-Priests, these bone flasks weep silver ichor drawn from a Spirit of Kurnous.  It’s said they convey good luck for many days before they run dry.

The Live Event Herald for Order is named Virinil the Storyteller and is located at (28008, 30909) in Altdorf, near the Flight Master.  The Live Event Herald for Destruction is named Airilar Wildheart and is located at (29058, 32809) in the Inevitable City, near the Flight Master.

General Information

The Wild Hunt lasts from August 31st to September 8th at approximately 8am EST.  As usual, there are Tier 1, 2, 3, and 4 versions of what needs to be done and where things are located.  Use the red circles on your map as guides and if that fails, ask in region or check this guide for location coordinates.

Gaarawarr Gabs with Mark Davis – Live Event Team Lead

Order Live Event Tasks (in no particular order):

  • Enter Hunter’s Vale
  • Locate the Fallen Hunters
  • Complete ‘Render Unto Kurnous’ Quest
  • Kill five Sacred Stags
  • Target the Stag of Kurnous
  • Participate in Any Elf Scenario
  • Kill five Beast-Hexed players
  • Become Beast-Hexed five times
  • Complete all the Tasks on the Master Huntsman Page
  • Kill the Spirit of Kurnous
  • Complete all Wild Hunt tasks

The Hunter’s Vale : Seek the Vale Vines in the RvR battlefields of the Elf lands and interact with them to enter the domain of Kurnous.

There are a couple Vale Vine portals (they look like planty-stargates, hehe) around the Public Quest area.  Click on them to enter with your party.  Don’t leave anyone behind!

Tier 1 : Blighted Isle (PQ is at approximately 36176,  61014)

Tier 2 : Shadowlands (PQ is at approximately 38044,55706)

Tier 3 : Avelorn (PQ is at approximately 30376, 61800)

Tier 4 : Caledor (PQ is at approximately 24871, 31621), Dragonwake (PQ is at approximately 32440, 38797), Eataine (PQ is at approximately 43057, 35455)

Remember, you must be in a party to enter the Hunter’s Vale.  You need at least four people, with at least both a Tank and a Healer, to complete the dungeon.

In Tier 4, there is a special reward if you complete the PQ in under 35 minutes.  Good luck!

Fallen Hunters : Search the Hunter’s Vale for those who have come before.  The means of their demises may give you clues on how to survive.

Squig Herder (Behind a tree near one of the first bends in the path.) – This Squig Herder appears to have been injured in battle — then executed.  Clearly, his companions had no desire to waste time healing him.

Sorceress (At the beginning of the Hunter’s Vale.) – The wounds on this Dark Elf Sorceress indicate that she was attacked from behind — her throat slit most expertly.

Magus (On a rock after the twin Trees.) – What was once a Chaos Magus is now just a withered husk — suggesting that he was blasted by a Sorceress’ spells.

Black Orc (Thru the hollow log right before the Lion Mother.) – Though savaged by lions, this Black Orc wasn’t killed by claws and fangs: A pair of Dark Elf daggers still protrude from his ribcage.

Witch Elf (To the left of the Lion Mother behind a tree.) – This blackened corpse — perhaps a Witch Elf, once — seems to have missed the notice of the lions.  The smell of oil lingers about the body; someone doused her with some inflammatory potion — though, clearly, she crawled in here, perhaps hoping to escape her attacker … only to expire alone, in the dark.

Human (Behind the Rune Puzzle.) – This human corpse seems relatively fresh, though thin and wasted, as though starved.  Clutched in his hand is a book, all but one page torn out: ‘Can’t work out runes … starving … hallucinating … ate pages from journal for energy to write this … dying … Elf god laughing … needed all to open portal … what irony …’

Render Unto Kurnous Quest : Seek out the Master Hunter Therion Fairshot in Altdorf; he can advise you on how to show proper respect to Kurnous.

Therion is located at (27319, 31035) in Altdorf, near the Flight Master.

(Since I’m level 40, I’ll be describing this from the Tier 4 perspective.  While the locations of some things may change for lower Tiers, the general idea is the same.)

Repeatable Quest – only 1 stage

To start, Therion sends you to kill sacred bears, boars, lions or wolves to collect 5 animal pelts. (They actually should say “Sacred Bear of Kurnous” etc. and are found in all Elf zones.)  Once you have them, you have to travel to the Vale Vines near the PQ in the RvR lake to complete the quest.  You just need to get close to the Vale Vines and right-click on the pelts in your Quest Inventory to complete it.  Once done, head on back to Therion in Altdorf to get your rewards.

Rewards:  XP and Gold

Sacred Stags : Kurnous’ Sacred Stags are found all over the Old World.  Only the swiftest hunters can slay them!

These stags are found running randomly through the Elf zones, usually heading into the RvR lake.  They are 1-skull Lords with decent health but they do not attack you.  Chase them and burn them down!  (Credit seems to be odd at the moment.  Sometimes it gives you credit and sometimes it doesn’t.)

Sacred Stag

Stag of Kurnous : The Legendary Stag appears from time to time around the world.  Seek him at major points of interest and at moments of great importance.

Reports say that this Stag can be found near recently captured Keeps.  So get out in the lake, capture a Keep and keep your eyes open!

I’ve also heard rumors of sightings near Fortresses and during City Sieges.

Confirmed Location:  I stood in the Order warcamp in Eataine right by the bridge that leads out into the RvR lake.  After quite a long time, he ran right across the bridge into the camp then went east and back out into the RvR lake.  It was NOT a contested zone and I’m not sure where he came from originally, but with patience, it’s a guaranteed way to get your unlock.  Good luck!

Elf Scenario : Participate in the Khaine’s Embrace, Phoenix Gate, Lost Temple of Isha, Blood of the Blackcairn, Caledor Woods, Dragon’s Bane, Serpent’s Passage or Tor Anroc Scenario.

Pretty self-explanatory.

Kill Beast-Hexed Players : Players in the ‘Curse of Kurnous’ Public Quest may be transformed into beasts by the wrath of Kurnous.  Kill them.

See “Curse of Kurnous” Public Quest below.

Become Beast-Hexed : Players in the ‘Curse of Kurnous’ Public Quest may be transformed into beasts by the wrath of Kurnous.  See if you can survive!

See “Curse of Kurnous” Public Quest below.

Curse of Kurnous Public Quest

While this isn’t a task for the event, it is where you complete the “Beast-Hexed” tasks and has a nice reward in the Gold Bag.

General Information

The Public Quest can be found in the Elf RvR lakes and is marked on the map.  It only has two stages, so is finished quickly.

Stage 1 – No timer

Arm 8 Oakfall Snares for Order/Destruction – The Oakfall Snares set by the Spirit of Kurnous, strategically placed, could tip the scales of the battle here.  Find and capture them before your opponents do – but beware the wrath of the Spirit of Kurnous!

The Snares are found scattered around the ground and look like small, wooden orbs.  When armed, they are filled with a flickering flame.  When they explode, they do AoE damage to opponents around them.

The Spirit of Kurnous runs around the PQ area during this phase and can Beast-Hex (You’ve been transformed into a pig and are completely disabled.  Oink, Oink!)  you at any time.  When Beast-Hexed, you gain an ability to target someone else and transfer the Hex to them.  If you do not do so quickly, you will turn into a Pig!  During this time, you are unable to use any abilities.  (If killed while a Pig, you earn an Achievement unlock and a Title: Squeals like a Pig.  🙂

Stage 2 – Five minute Timer

Defeat Cirbaen Greybow, Elohin Fiercefang, Yvasir Stormwing – The Wild Hunt has come, and you are the prey!  Defeat the manifestations of the Wild Hunt, and receive the blessings of Kurnous!

The three manifestations of the Wild Hunt are Heros that you must defeat in combat.  They appear on horses, but at least one dismounts and you have to fight its mount as well.  There are other adds during this fight as well, so keep your eyes open.  This fight takes some concentration if you are not doing it with a zerg.  Kurnous is still around, so beware the Curse!

Alternately, if your Realm didn’t complete Stage 1, you get the following Stage 2:

Drive Back the Enemy Realm! – The Wild Hunt has arrived at the battle, but thankfully it’s not you they’re after.  With the High Elf hunters focused on your enemies, there may still be hope!  You can join them to drive out the forces of Destruction, or use Oakfall Snares to aid the hunters against your common foe!

Failure

Failing the PQ starts a fairly short reset timer and then you can try again.

Success

Completing the PQ awards bags of various colors, gives everyone the “Blood of the Hunter” 10-minute buff, and starts a 10 minute countdown timer for the chest in the warcamp.  The reset timer for the PQ itself seems fairly long once you actually complete it.

Gold Bag Reward : Horn of the Vale Wolf

Vale Wolf

This is a pocket item that summons a vanity pet to your side when not in an RvR lake or RvR flagged.

Master Hunstman Tasks : Identify all of the beast tracks on the Master Huntsman page of the Tome of Knowledge to gain the Title “The Master Hunter”.

  • Bear
  • Boar
  • Cockatrice
  • Deer
  • Lion
  • Vulture
  • Cold One
  • Salamander

These can be killed anywhere in the world apparently.  Killing 1 identifies the track, killing 15 completes the entry.

Spirit of Kurnous : Fight your way through the Hunter’s Vale to face the Spirit of Kurnous and defeat him.

Those who defeat Kurnous in his domain get a chance to loot the Fleet Stag Mantle.  He only drops one per kill, so good luck!

FleetStagMantle

This cloak grants the ability to turn into a stag for a short period which boosts your run speed to that of being mounted.

To Deny a God Quest : Seek out the Master Hunter Balthinal Tholos in the Inevitable City; aid him in his quest to steal Kurnous’ favor away from the High Elves.

Balthinal is located at ( 29786, 33602) in the Inevitable City, near the Flight Master.

(Since I’m level 2 on my Destro toon, I’ll be describing this from the Tier 1 perspective.  While the locations of some things may change for higher Tiers, the general idea is the same.)

for anyone curious about the animals if you go just outside of the WC PvE you find lions and boars aplenty, there are salamanders along the cost to saphery if you then zone into saphery there are bears there. up along the road there are cockatrices and eventually cold ones. Deer are right around the road too.

Thanks Lwyll! I’ll update that as soon as I do it. Was busy downing Kurnous. hehe

I tried doing the repeatable quest in a lower tier. I got the hides from blighted isle (bears right outside the order WC). But I had to go to T2 to complete the quest. (I am a 20 RP on orvr server). In the blighted isle, it would not let me place my hides.

Also – idk how much you have figured out already… but i found that killing vultures outside of the order camp (the one that you fly to, far east) was very fast. Also, for the deer, I used the coast on the SE strip of land on the blighted isle right after the bridge. You turn to the right and go down a little, there are 4-5 of them. Respawn is very fast.

The 8th entry is “Kill 5 Sacred Stags”.

Cockatrices are hard to come by as rank 40 destro in orvr, but there are a few around the Talabecland river and some in Saphery on order side.

There is also a named cockatrice called Cindar right across from Sundered Strand camp in Shadowlands. Just past him are the Cold Ones. He’s a fast repop, so you can go and kill your Cold Ones while you wait for him to respawn.

For Destro, the easiest for me was to start in Chrace, kill lions, work my way down to the deer, then Shadowlands for the cockatrice and cold ones. I went to Eataine for the bears and boars, then flew to Badlands for vultures.

I would love some walk-through with the timed group PQ. Like I have found that you can bypass some mobs to save time, but we haven’t figured out the last boss Kurnous yet. What’s with him transforming into a lion near the end of the fight? Any other tips and hints?

      Rough Walkthrough for timed PQ

      1. Run through most of the mobs…if you have a Chosen with you, have them TURN OFF THEIR AURAS LOL :-)….Stop at certain points to fight and kill.

      2. At the Twin Trees (near the flock of deer and big dryad thingies..right before the sprite champ…SPRINT and you will lose all the tree aggro…if you hang a sharp enough left, you will miss the sprite champ as well.

      3. Kill the tree mobs to knock down tree for bridge.

      4. Run through the animal mobs straight to the mothers. Kill the mothers and any added spawn…rinse and repeat.

      5. The puzzle – Have three ppl stand on the square stones directly in front of the pillars. When you do this, the pillars will glow with a symbol. Have the other three in the group go to the stone with the symbol on it and stand on it ONE at a time. If they stand in the wrong order, everyone gets zapped – don’t panic…just step off the stones, heal up, and have someone else start the sequence. Even if you don’t get it right, eventually the birds will spawn. Click on one to travel to Kournos’ lair.

      6. First stage is just tank and spank. at around 70% health he will stun the whole group and walk into a portal. Once stun wears off, everyone head to a portal. They will open and close randomly and a javelin will fly out. Once one starts to open, it is attackable, and ANY dmg you do on ANY portal accumulates towards their collective destruction. Destroy them fast enough, and you won’t get the javelin phase when Kournos reappears. (stand to the side of the portal and hit so you will miss the javelin flying out)

      7. If you DO get javelin phase – either spread out, and watch for the green glow (that is where javelin will land – instadeath if you are hit) or stick together and run around the perimeter of the circle. If you don’t get the javelin phase, just smack him.

      8. At some point, he will call out “The hunters become the hunted!” and you will see an animal spirit above his head, and he will release a lion, a wolf, and a hound. ONE person needs to click the corresponding animal – I heard there is a certain one you have to click – not sure if this is correct but wolf ->lion, lion ->dog, dog->wolf. if you are correct you get a buff, if you are not, you get zapped. It’s not enough to kill you unless your entire group clicks on the animals LOL…so appoint one person.

      9. He then becomes the animal that was above his head, and has a spirit shield that needs a beatdown. Smack him, he’ll become his normal form and can then take dmg again. You may have to do this a couple times before he dies.

You should be able to complete the quest easily within the time if you run by most of the mobs. The gold bags (for T4 at least) have a decent weapon or piece of jewelry, the lesser bags just the usual “stuff” – not sure about the purp or blue bags yet.

      It is Lion->Dog->Wolf->Lion

When fighting the last boss in HV, during the first stage “talk to” (right click) on a rabbit that’s running around in the ring of portals, this will give you a +50 movement speed buff and makes it heaps easier to down the portals in the first phase.

Being a WL also helps with pounce.
    Cheers,

He was spotted by one of my guildmates in dragonwake between 2 middle bos, near pels. He don’t remeber if zone was locked or contested tho..

Apparently when you kill the stag, you won’t see credit in the tome straight away, but /reloadui will update it.

    Not checked this yet.

For some reason, it will not allow me to sacrifice the 5 sacred boar pelts on the altar. Nothing happens. I’ve tried it on two different toons in T2 Shadowlands. Once with my 21 Kotbs, and once with my 21 IB.

    It’s getting rather frustrating.

And yes, I’m standing next to the altar on every attempt.

You have to interact with the pelts in your quest inventory as you are standing near a Vale Vine,

Render Unto Kurnous is given by the Master Hunter Therion in Altdorf. He is located near the Flight Master. Look for the big red dot on your map and the red and gold icon over his head.

In altdorf near the flight master. You will see the npc marked with a red (event, I guess) symbol on his head, isntead of the normal green/blue

More info about “target the Stag of Kurnous”

He was spotted in TM in pve zone, near orvr lake. Seems like when you target it becomes untagteble and runs untill it dissapears…

TM was contested zone at that moment

to target the white stag the easiest way is to take a keep, the stag appears in the keep area pretty soon after it flips. I was in a wb taking keeps and I saw him 7 or so times.

forgot to mention, each time I saw him was just after the keep flipped.

So still 4 “???”s in the List… My Guess:
    Kill 5 hexed players
Kill 10 hexed players for a title
    Completed all Event-Tasks.

Still 1 Missing… maybe Target the White Stag 5/10 Times for a Title?

1 is kill 5 hexed players.
3 are “other realm” version of
“complete all tasks”, “complete master huntsman tasks” and “complete quest”.

As always, Gaar always comes through with the details we need, when we need them! (Your armor guide are awesome, BTW.)

This has been a fun Live Event so far but a bit frustrating. Like you, I love to get Tome unlocks (and especially those Titles!) and other than the Witching Night Live Event I have completed all the other events. So with each new one I strive to complete all the tasks on my two mains. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do this with even one.

Thanks to all those who helped supply info about targeting the Stag. When I’ve been online, Order hasn’t really been taking keeps for me to tag along in hopes of spotting it. But with five days remaining I’m sure there will be more than a few opportunities. Heck, I’ve pondered dropping a tier disguised as a chicken just to be on hand for a shot at completing that task.

As tough as finding the Stag seems to be, I never thought the PQ challenges would be so difficult. Is it me or does Kurnous not hex people as often as one would think? I envisioned all these pigs running amok but that hasn’t been the case.

Any good strategies for this one. Seems I am online at the wrong times where either Destro is zerging so bad we can’t even get near the PQ or there’s none of them to be found. I assume over the weekend there will be a lot more traffic.

There are cold ones right across from the Sundered Strand camp, behind Cindar (named cockatrice) in Shadowlands.

How the hell do you get “The Master Hunter” title? I completed all of the tasks on the master huntsman page and got the popup telling me I earned the title, but it does not appear in Tome of Knowledge. Anyone else have this problem?

  24. September 4, 2009 2:49 am

Finding ppl for the HV is the worst. And then some.
Found a cheap spot for deers in Charce for Order.
Cheap spot for Salamaders is AV, right next to WC, and noth on the map is a whole Cockatrice farm.
Still need a good cheap spot for Vultures tho.

LotD assuming you are that lvl, just travel along the outside following the walls. There are also the oasis’s that have the vultures nice and bunched up. Avoid the carrions as they do not count.

    • nacireman permalink
      September 4, 2009 11:34 am

cheapest place for vultures if order is fly to mount blood horn, right under the order pve entrance to the area you can find a flock of them picking dead orc bodies…i think you could get there by hoping over the wall in that npc camp being attacked by the bandits from the orc side.
