Rise of the Tomb Kings – Live Event Guide

June 16, 2009

With the release of 1.3, the time has come for the Tomb Kings to rise!!!!

~jumps up and down and claps his hands~

You know me and Live Events, I luvz em. I plan on doing this just like the Beyond the Sands post I did previously since no one asked for it differently. Basically, I’ll try and list out all the tasks, do quick explanations of the quests, the same with the PQ, and since there’s supposedly an ultra-rare drop-loot item and possibly a secret quest based on drop-loot from RvR, I’ll be sure to include information on those as well. Like I said before, I do love one-stop-shopping for information. :p

I’ll update this as new information is found by me or others. And remember, I’m Order so most of this is from the Order perspective and about their quests, but some is generic to both sides so Destro should find some info here as well. (If anyone knows of a Destro player that does guides like this, let me know and I’ll link to them.)

Hell has frozen over, I now have information for Destro for the event too.  :o  I’ll be posting the information at the bottom of this post above the Achievements listing.  Enjoy and special thanks to my naimless Destro spy friend for giving me the information!  ;)

Have fun!!!

Call to Arms : Rise of the Tomb Kings (Live Event – June 2009)

Rise of the Tomb Kings pits Order against Destruction in a race to gather the resources needed to mount airship expedetions to the deserts of Nehekhara.  On each server, the realm that has gathered the most resources gains exclusive, premiere early access to the new Tomb Kings dungeon.

General Information

The Live event runs from June 16th to June 22nd.  Hopefully we’ll see clarification on when exactly the “head start” will occur for the victorious Realms on each server so people can plan a little in advance.

They haven’t noted yet how long the Live Event lasts, but once I know, I’ll be sure to update it here.  One nice thing about this “contest” Live Event is they put a sort of measuring-stick in your Tome to be able to track which side is winning it seems.  Here’s hoping it’s accurate.  I do see it moving quite a bit, but I guess we just have to trust it as there’s hundreds of people contributing almost constantly.

Desert Madness : This is a buff that comes from all kinds of things that you do during the Live Event.  I’ve noted some guaranteed ways to get it, but at times I’ve gotten it completely randomly it seemed.  So just go do event stuff and you should get this sweet bonus.  Renown and XP gains boosted by 5% for 30 minutes.

Live Event Tasks for Order :

A successful expedition to the Land of the Dead cannot be undertaken without a faster, more secure method of travel : air travel.  Emperor Karl Franz himself has charged all Order forces with obtaining the materials needed to create these airships.  Slaughter your enemy to obtain airship blue prints (sigh, they did it again) and search the depot crates in the contested battlegrounds for airship parts and tools.

  • Collect 25 Airship Parts from the Open RvR Battlefields (Resource Points : 10 Repeatable)

  • Collect 15 Airship Tools from the Open RvR Battlefields (Resource Points : 15 Repeatable)

  • Deliver 1 Airship Blueprints to the Event Herald in Altdorf (Resource Points : 50 Repeatable)

In an effort to support the airship race, the Reikland Factory has begun producing Airship Fuel.  It would be a terrible loss if the forces of Destruction were to secure the Factory (and the Fuel) for themselves.

  • Participate in the Reikland Factory scenario 5 times (Resource Points : 25 Repeatable)

  • Win Reikland Factory scenario with 500 points (Resource Points : 100)

  • Claim the Airship Fuel for your realm in the Reikland Factory scenario 3 times (Resource Points : 50 Repeatable)

Every member of the Order army has been called upon to support the airship effort, be that through taking a place on the front lines, aiding in the actual construction of the ships in the capital cities (um, Order only has one captial, sigh), or donating much needed materials and blueprints to the cause.

  • Kill 50 enemy players (Resource Points : 100)

  • Complete the Iron Eagles quest near the Flight Master in Altdorf (Resource Points : 100)

  • Complete the Lucky Lady public quest in Altdorf (Resource Points : 75 Repeatable)

  • Personally contribute 2000 points to Order in the resource race (Resource Points : 50)

  • Complete all 10 tome challenges (Resource Points : 250)

Airship Parts : There is a noticeable camp with lots of tents and boxes in each RvR area.  The respawn on the boxes is ultra-fast right now and occasionally you’ll get a Khemri Skeleton hopping out of the crate for you to kill as well.  I finished off the Parts and Tools requirement extremely quickly and each one contributed to my resource contribution.  Very nice.  Also, the resouce contribution for the Event happens automatically from this.  The actual items you gather are junk loot and can be sold to merchants.

Gaarawarr_422

Airship Tools : Again, picked up from Depot Crates in all the RvR zones as described above.

Airship Blueprints : Looted from the corpses of your fallen enemies in RvR.  Apparently these are hard to come by.  Also, they seem to drop in Scenarios as well.

Reikland Factory Scenario

ReiklandFactory

Awww yeah!  It’s back!  This scenario is always loads of fun.  Both Order and Destruction start at the bottom of the map; Order on the right, Destruction on the left.  There are four proximity capture locations spread out through the scenario and lots of places to surprise people and fight in small areas.  Don’t forget, there’s tunnels and multiple levels upstairs too!

Keep your eyes out for the Airship Fuel while in here, it’s in the back of the Steamtank Plant.  It should be the first thing you take care of as only one person needs to get it and it counts for everyone on your side.  It takes 10 seconds to pick it up and damage can interrupt it, so get a group to protect you or protect the person doing it so you can get credit for your Realm.

Also, when the scenario is won, you get the Desert Madness buff which increases your Renown and XP gains by 5% for 30 minutes.  Good times.

Have fun!!!

Resources : Should drop off enemy players in RvR.  You also get points for completing your tasks.

Kill 50 enemy players : Pretty self-explanatory and you have to do it to get the Blueprints and the ultra-rare Glyphs you need anyway.

Airship Fuel : Obtained in the Reikland Factory scenario.  Go into the Steamtank Plant and go towards the back of it.  The interactable object you need to use is there.  As long as one person in your Realm does this, it counts for everyone in the scenario.  It takes 10 seconds to pick it up and damage will interrupt you.

Iron Eagles Quest

This quest starts by talking to Athynion Starhand in Altdorf at approximately 21360, 16800 near the Flight Master in Altdorf.  They give you stage 1 of the quest.  (This was done in Tier 4.  If you’re not in Tier 4, you can’t follow this information but you can get the general idea of how to do the quest and what it will have you do.)

Stage 1

Travel to Thunder Mountain and head to Lorkinson’s Excavation which is in the top left corner at approximately 5407, 5603.  Convince 6 Gyrocopter Pilots to join the Dwarf Airship Corps.  When done, return to Athynion in Altdorf.

Rewards : XP and Gold

Stage 2

You must head to the War Quarters and talk to the Dwarfs there to find the location of their Gyrocaptain, Norokin Skallison.  The Dwarf you want is located at 25244, 33951.  He completes the quest and gives you stage 3.

Rewards : XP and Gold

Stage 3

Now that you know where to find Norokin, it seems you must free him as he’s imprisoned.  Head to Dragonwake and go to the Dark Elf camp to find him in a cage at approximately 49938, 17400.  Use the cage to free him and he’ll run away with his friends to roughly 63209, 15434.  You’ll need to head over there to talk to him to complete stage 3 and obtain stage 4.

Rewards : XP and Gold

Stage 4

A bit of bad news means you need to do some fighting.  Wrap it up quick and then head back to Altdorf to talk to Athynion to receive your final rewards.

Rewards : XP, Gold and the Captain’s ChronometerCaptainsChronometer

Once the whole quest is done you will receive the title “Iron Eagle”.  Completing the quest also gives you a 30 minute buff called Desert Madness that ups your Renown and XP gains by 5%.

Lucky Lady Quest

Gaarawarr_420

There she be, the Lucky Lady.  This PQ is located in the War Quarters of Altdorf on the side opposite the Guild tavern.  Just look for the big zeppelin on the map.

The PQ doesn’t last too long with a large group there and then takes an hour to reset, so if someone says it’s about to start, get over there and get it done!

Stage 1

You need to pick up 30 Airship Parts.  These are scattered around the general vicinity and re-pop every so often.  Just interact with them and it counts it.

Stage 2

You need to pump 60 units of fuel in this stage.  The pumps are down around where the airship is tethered, so run in and use them.  Be careful though!  Apparently you can pump too much at once and it starts a mini-stage where the airship catches fire and you need to put the fire out, quickly!

Stage 3

Wyverns are attacking!  You have 5 minutes to save the Lucky Lady.  Defend the Lucky Lady using the siege weapons spread around the area.  About halfway through, a level 40 Lord Wyvern named Gashtail the Gargantuan will spawn.  As long as you prevent the airship from taking too much damage, you’ll complete the stage and the PQ.

Rumor has it, Gashtail can drop the Shroud of Imrathepis, which is actually the Gold Bag reward for the PQ.  One Gold Bag drops for each PQ along with a bunch of Green Bags that hold Scarabs.

Just being part of this PQ in any way should mark it off your task list.

Also, Desert Madness shows up here as well.  A nice 30 minute buff that ups your Renown and XP gains by 5%.  Very nice.

Complete all 10 tome challenges : Again, self-explanatory. Grants the “Sky Captain” title for Order and the “Master of the Air” title for Destruction.

Easter Eggs!!!

In an interview with Warhammer Alliance, Mark Davis stated there would be at least one Easter Egg in this event that has to do with Glyphs that you loot off people’s bodies in RvR. He didn’t say much more than that, but whatever it is, it should be good. Quite possibly this could be how you get the Ravening Cloak. Not sure yet, but you can be sure I’ll be scouring the interwebz for information on this and updating this section the moment I have it.  See below for the newly updated information on the Easter Eggs!

Mysteries of the Southern Sands – This is an Achievement unlock found by interacting with a book/scroll in your City’s library.  The book/scroll is called “Nehekharan Mysteries”.

Mysteries

The southern lands have long been places of fear and superstition. Superstition that, it appears, is at least partially grounded in fact.
There can be no denying that once a great civilization flourished in the land of Khemri, but like all civilizations it could not last forever. All that remains now are silent pyramids and temple walls that can still be seen in the distance by passing caravans.
One of the most intriguing practices of the people of Khemri is their written language. Originally a pictographical language, over time their glyphs evolved to include abstract sigils to represent sounds.
These glyphs have been found across the world, though primarily in lands along the northern trade route from Khemri itself, lending a bit of credence to the belief that these ancient peoples were once quite widely spread.

The Ravening Cloak

This is a rare world-drop item.  We now know that this does drop off the boss that spawns from the Glyphs listed below.  It is rumored to drop in other ways as well, but I have yet to confirm that.

Update:  Here is a pic of the graphic courtesy of Promethos on Iron Rock.  A screenshot of the stats is below as well.

RaveningCloakravening

The Glyphs

It took me a while since I couldn’t seem to loot them myself, but I finally found people who had all four and could give me all the info on the items themselves.

Glyph of Souls – Incomprehensible carvings lay mingled with the sigil of a winged skull and the sacred scarab. Judging by the shape of the glyph, this must be Nehekharan work. But the back of the glyph tells a more violent tale- chisel marks indicate the glyph was once part of something larger.

souls

Glyph of LifeAn ancient eye has been carved deeply into the ancient stone, accompanied by a looped cross and other strange markings. Until recently no one would have recognized these glyphs for what they are. Chisel marks on the back of the glyph indicate this was once part of some larger Nehekharan work.

life

Glyph of Warriors – The small tablet bears but a single sigil, a bearded skull. Almost immediately you recognize the Nehekharan Glyph of Warriors. But a single glyph is almost never seen alone. This one must have been part of something larger. A statue base perhaps?

warriors

Glyph of Damnation – The strange carvings fill your mind with unease as your eye traces their sinuous outlines. While no pictures adorn the stone there can be no mistaking the origin of such a thing; Nehekhara, the Land of the Dead. But the piece is obviously not whole. It has been taken from a larger work.damnation

The statue has been found!  It is in Thunder Mountain in the RvR lake at 56918, 37552.  Go there with all four of the Glyphs and a level 40 Ushabti Hero will spawn for you to kill.  He drops the Ravening Cloak, so enjoy!  (Again, this is the Tier 4 location.  People in other Tiers will need to find theirs.  You can list the locations in the comments if you find them and I will add them to the guide.)

Gaarawarr_424A Nehekharan statue stands forgotten amidst the wreckage of a sacked caravan. Too ornate to ignore and too heavy to carry, the statue has instead been defaced by treasure hunters seeking to turn a profit from the small glyphs found at the statue’s base.

Destruction-specific Information – New!!!

Live Event Tasks for Destruction:

A successful expedition to the Land of the Dead cannot be undertaken without a faster, more secure method of travel : air travel.  Warlord Tchar’zanek himself has charged all Destruction forces with obtaining the materials needed to create these airships.

  • Deliver 1 Airship Blueprints to the Event Herald in the Inevitable City (Resource Points : 50 Repeatable)

In an effort to support the airship race, the Reikland Factory has begun producing Airship Fuel.  It would be a terrible loss if the forces of Order were to secure the Factory (and the Fuel) for themselves.

Every member of the Destruction army has been called upon to support the airship effort, be that through taking a place on the front lines, aiding in the actual construction of the ships in the capital cities (um, Destruction only has one captial, sigh), or donating much needed materials and blueprints to the cause.

  • Kill 50 enemy players (Resource Points : 100)

  • Complete the Hammer and Chain quest at Fates Edge of the Inevitable City (Resource Points : 100)

  • Complete the Big Floata public quest in the Inevitable City (Resource Points : 75 Repeatable)

  • Personally contribute 2000 points to Destruction in the resource race (Resource Points : 50)

  • Complete all 10 tome challenges (Resource Points : 250)

*See the Order section for information on general tasks.  The following is only for the Destro-specific parts.

Big Floata Public Quest

Zellis_006

This quest is located in the southern part of the Inevitable City right near the Bloodwrought Enclave at approximately 25406, 3799.

Stage 1

You need to convince 25 Goblin Mechanics to do their job.  Pretty easy, just run up and interact with them.  Update : Apparently, before convincing them, you need to go to the bonfire to pick up a buff you need that allows you to convince them.  (Thanks for the updated info Fogarty!)

Stage 2

This time you need to herd 35 Inflated Squigs.  Apparently there is something called Fizzy Grog involved that you need to feed to the Inflatable Squigs.  They then hop off to the basket to air up the Big Floata.  Don’t feed them too much though, they’ll blow up!  hehe

Stage 3

You have 5 minutes to protect the Big Floata from damage.  Use the siege weapons to shoot down the King’s Flying Corps that is coming to destroy the airship.  Also, be on the lookout for Khargrim Oathbeard and Grouchy Gerda who will show up to try to foil your plans.

Just being a part of this should tick the task off of your list and you will receive the Desert Madness buff as well.  From what I heard, this PQ actually dropped 3 Gold Bags compared to the 1 I saw the time I did the Order version.  Oh well. hehe.  Maybe it’s just random and my group got the shaft.  :(

Hammer and Chain Quest

This quest starts by the Flight Master in the Inevitable City.  The person you want to talk to is named Leris Bitterkiss and they will give you stage 1 of the quest.  (This was done in Tier 3.  If you’re not in Tier 3, you can’t follow this information but you can get the general idea of how to do the quest and what it will have you do.)

Stage 1

You must first go to Black Fire Pass and look for the Dwarf camp near Proudrock which is in the southern part of the map at approximately 40550, 55091.  Capture 6 Dwarfs by beating them to near-death.  Once done, report to Snazgrod (32768, 59802) at the Chapter 12 Destruction camp which is just west of the area where you rounded up the prisoners.  He gives you stage 2.

Rewards : XP and Gold

Stage 2

You must now speak to the longbeard prisoner (53248, 54067) at Kaltlauf to get the list of parts you need to finish the airship.  Then you must go north of him to Kolaz Umgal to get 12 Dwarf equipment parts.  These should be scattered around on the ground for you to pick up.  These look like the airship parts from the PQ.  Once done, return to the longbeard prisoner with your parts.  He will then send you back to Snazgrod to get stage 3.

Rewards : XP and Gold

Stage 3

Snazgrod sends you off to round up a half-dozen escaped dwarf prisoners back in Kaltlauf (46285, 54784).  These prisoners are running around, so they’re easy to distinguish.  Beat them to near-death again and move on.  Once done, you’ll need to go talk to the prison camp big’un at roughly 52736, 54272.  He will give you stage 4 of the quest.

Rewards : XP and Gold

Stage 4

Now you must destroy the steamtank that spawns right behind you.  Once destroyed, head back to Snazgrod at the Chapter 12 camp for your rewards.

Rewards : XP, Gold, and the Steamtank Whistle

whistle

Once the whole quest is done you will receive the title “Prison Warden”.  Completing the quest also gives you a 30 minute buff called Desert Madness that ups your Renown and XP gains by 5%.

Achievement Unlocks (in no particular order) :

    Just to clarify this part:

    Stage 1

You need to convince 25 Goblin Mechanics to do their job. Pretty easy, just run up and interact with them.

You actually need to click on the bonfire first, which will give you a clickable buff that you then cast on the goblins to convince them.

Yaah fantastic, aside from that generic “to the back of the steamtank plant”. i’ve scoured down the whole plant 4 times and i have yet to see any fuels.

Sorry, but you are either looking in the wrong place or someone got it already. It’s fairly easy to find since it’s the only interactable object in there. If you go in like you’re trying to take the factory, but follow the train tracks to the back, it’s just between where it turns and the exit.
